I Wish I Could Say I Was Sorry
I have read all of Susie's books i was hooked after the first one i read. This latest one ( I wish i could say i was sorry ) is a fantastic read. A heart wrenching story but still a book i just could not put down. What a life Susie has led that old saying springs to mind ( What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger )She had to cope with so much in her younger life it must of been so hard to write this book.I couldn't help but cry when i got to the bit when her lovely children are taken out of the country. Thank god she got them back. I feel her father & step mother could of looked after Susie so very much better.Susie don't every feel sorry you did nothing to feel sorry for.EXCELLENT READ.

She has nothing for which to apologise...quite the contrary
I read Susie Kelly's books on France with pleasure...she has the gift of accurate description which lets you stand in her shoes and see what she is seeing.Having read this book it is clear that that accuracy doesn't only relate to landscape...it relates to emotions, to relationships and the lack of them encountered by a girl growing up in a period when life changing events weren't discussed, just endured. She endured, I think in large part due too the company of her pony and the horsey world which took her to its heart in Kenya showing her the appreciation almost totally lacking in her immediate family. The sheer pain, the bewildered puzzlement of those years is related, not in an emotional manner - the moeurs of the epoch of silence still dominant, I think - but with a relentless honesty which makes you want to shake her family until their teeth rattled. It's not a sentimental book, it's not misery lit...it's reality and not to be missed. And she has nothing for which to apologise to anyone.

Familiar People and Places
This is a poignant story of how the author is trapped within a dysfunctional family.Kelly is hard on herself, emphasising feelings of self-loathing and inadequacy as she suffers the humiliations of being unwanted. What is she doing wrong - how can she convince her unloving family that she means well?Eventually, Susie learns how to cope, immerses herself in her horse and builds a life in Kenya, the country she loves.I relate so much to her story in Nairobi, and am reminded of familiar people and places, as I wonder how we could have missed each other, our paths seem so close.Thankyou, Susie, for your story. You dont need to be be sorry, and I'm glad you found happiness at last.

A remarkable read
This is one of the most remarkable and wonderful books I have ever read - and I have read a few! It brought back so many childhood memories and, at times , I felt Susie was writing my story apart, of course, from the tine in Kenya. . It's not often a book makes me gasp out loud but this did. It was so poignant and also amusing. One minute I was giggling and the next I was crying. Such strong emotions were invoked by Susie's writing. The characters came to life on every page. I did not want it to end. Susie writes from the heart. Her incredible strength in the face of adversity shines through. It is so good to be able to escape from this crazy world into the warmth and comfort of a good book. I think I have just about acquired the whole collection so there will, hopefully be many more hours of sheer enjoyment. Thank you Susue.

I became a fan of Susie's a while back. I became a fan because she's a terrific writer. She took me right out of my own world into hers, and I loved every second of it.This book of Susie's is different from the others, and as interesting and enjoyable.Susie is right there at the top of the writing profession.I will not fail to buy her next book.Message to Susie: Do not let me wait too long!!
