I had a large cooling unit in my room, but I had to have it on full blast which meant that between flushes I was getting too cold and waking up because of that. Therefore, I thought a smaller unit might be better.I used distilled water in this to avoid limescale clogging the filter. It is absolutely simple to use - you just need a USB plug and you lift up the lid of the water compartment, fill it with water, leave it to soak for a few minutes, and away you go.My first impression was terrible. I had my hand right up next to the cooler and all I could feel was like somebody exhaling through pursed lips. This went on for about 20 minutes, by which time I had decided I would send the product back to Amazon the following day.However, after 20 minutes, things started to change. Having carefully adjusted the vent to the perfect position (directly on to my head), I realised that although you could not feel cold air if you put your hand close to the unit, there was definitely cold air coming out further away. I went to the loo about an hour after starting the unit, and when I returned to my bedroom it was noticeably cooler than before.The longer the unit was on (just on the lowest setting), the cooler the room became. It is not as cold as with a full size AC - obviously - but definitely a few degrees below what it usually is, and certainly enough for me to be comfortable and not feel like I was being microwaved at various points during the night, which is my usual experience. The fan is not so strong that your hair is blown around or you feel like you are in a freezer. It is just comfortably cool and fresh feeling.For the money this is a really good little unit. It isn't going to change your life, but it does work more efficiently than a normal fan, which just recirculates hot air. Bearing in mind a full size AC will cost about £300 and make a ton of noise, this is definitely worth buying if you just want to literally keep a cool head! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This Air cooler works great, after a few mods. *by H***Y on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 June 2018* This Cooler works, but only after i'd fix the leak. All praise be to Jayarr - for his excellent guide. ;))In most cases I imagine this works straight out the box with no mods, however due to the way it was assembled or transported, some of you may experiance 'the leak'. If only the retailers had corrected this minor fault before shipping. The design itself seems sound.This devices features an ingenious floatation valve which is designed to regulate the amount of water which flows to the shallow tray into which the paper filter sits. Without this special float valve, all the water poured into the side reservoir would would flow straight out again.To access and fix the valve, you must first remove the front grill, this has a simple latch mechanism to remove. You then remove the filter assembly. The float valve is the white plastic rectangle you'll see under a black plastic hood. The 'hood' limits how high the float can go. To get at the float, look for a part of the black plastic 'hood' which clips to the side nearest the reservoir.Now for the tricky bit. The float has a light rubber cone which needs to be inside a corresponding hole to work. Use a pencil or pen to gently work this rubber cone into the hole. Turning it 360 helps. Don't damage the cone. Make sure that rubber valve is totally inside the hole before reassembling.The tray which holds the water for the filter is shallow, about an inch deep and so naturally you can still spill water if you don't handle the device with care and keep it level. The cooler has three fan speeds, on the highest setting the reservoir will last about 3 hours. Also the cooler the water, the better the effect, so i have a container of water in the fridge to refill.Aside from that initial leak, this device works great and is very functional.Followup:Its now a couple of months later and i've discovered a bug with this device, literally.The light on this device will attracts flying critters which can get sucked in through the fan. If you are unlucky they end up floating in the tray and eventually blocking the water into the tray. The same is true if you don't use clean water to fill the reservoir.The solution is to disassemble the unit, as before, and then use a straw or the barrel of a biro to blow into the hole. Reassemble the unit as before. The next version of this device should include filters to allow for these pesky bugs. ;) ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's great for the money *by I***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 June 2018* I have just started to use this and it's not bad at all.It means it about not tilting it and only us on a very flat surface or it will leak a lot. It works(I think) by using an absorbent filter that pull up the water from a tray, this is why you can not tilt it. The fan then blows air into the damp filter cooling the air. It may also filler the air a bit too. I don't think there is a compressor so it a bit better to the environment then running an proper air con unit.The unit very self contained I have run it for 2 hours and it's not gotten warm and it's still blowing cool air.
