A good little battery smoke detector
PACKAGING: Dedicated marketing box, with integrated display loop.PRODUCT: Battery operated smoke detector.FUNCTION: The device came with a piece of plastic film adhered to the face for protection in transit. Also in the box was a little bag of fixings (two cross head screws and raw plugs) and a user manual. The instructions are printed on two sides of an A4 sheet of paper. The lettering is not too small and there are diagrams regarding location of installation. This runs on a lithium battery (non-replaceable), which is already installed and is advertised at lasting 10 years. There was no tab covering the battery terminal, which is usually installed and needs to be removed to allow the battery to function. Instead, this device is activated when you tighten the back plate. This then de-presses a little button that in turn activates the smoke alarm. The base connects to the body of the alarm (twist fit) effortlessly. In the event the alarm needs to be removed for any reason this will not prove to be a chore. There are two pre-drilled holes in the base for installation using the screws provided. There is a slim sticker on the rim where you can write the date of installation.Once installed, test the alarm by pressing the 'test/silence' button, which is the large circle in the center. It will emit a loud high-pitched pulsating alarm and the indicator light will flash quickly. It really is quite loud and it upset my dog.At the time of this review the smoke alarm was £16.99, which I think this is reasonable and I would recommend.

Interesting and Innovative Smoke Alarm
I received this smoke alarm free of charge for an honest review under the Vine Program. I was pleased to note that, although made outside the UK, it is designed by well respected UK company in the North West of England. The alarm comes with full instructions and wall/ceiling fixings. There are some really innovative features. Firstly of course, the built in battery which is specified to last 10 years. Obviously, once the battery dies the whole unit needs to be replaced but it's great to not have to worry about changing a battery during the lifespan of the product. As usual, there is a test button and I promise you that you will not fail to hear this VERY loud alarm sound. Anther thing I like is the 'Hush' feature. If the alarm triggers (say, for example, you burn your toast) pressing the test button for a second, halts the alarm and waits 10 minutes in a kind of sleep mode and then returns to normal operation if the smoke condition has cleared. The fixing is straight forward (just like any other smoke alarm with regards to the base plate). You just have to make sure you align and twist the unit correctly so that the base plate tab goes into the unit to activate the internal On/Off slide switch (Neat idea!).This is an interesting design and the long-life battery will give us peace of mind but I still think it is a shame that it will eventually need to be discarded (since it contains a lithium battery, I wonder what the correct disposal method will be?). Otherwise, I'm very pleased with it.

Good individual smoke alarm
We needed a new smoke alarm and it can be hard to know what to get. This comes with everything you need - the smoke alarm, mounting bracket and screws. I attached the plate to the ceiling without any difficulty - bonus points for the excellent placement instructions. The alarm itself fits into the bracket without any difficulty. So far, so good.I tried a couple of things to test it. I first little a scrap of paper and let it burn in a dish near to the smoke alarm. Within 30 seconds it went off with a piercing and clear alarm that was heard throughout the place, even through closed doors. Nice. And then I tried burning a piece of toast by leaving it in the toaster too long. Again, the smoke alarm reacted quickly and this time I tried the 'hush' feature. Pressing and holding the test button for three seconds silenced the alarm. I took the burnt toast from the toaster and opened the windows. After the hush period expired (ten minutes) the alarm didn't sound again. Nice.So I'm jolly happy with the alarm and it's something that is easy to live with, thanks to the hush feature for non-emergency activations. It's a sealed unit with a ten year battery. I'm not entirely sure how to dispose of it at the end, but I'll cross that bridge later. It will apparently start chirping when it's dying, so that's something that will also have to be taken into account.Overall, I'm just really pleased with this.

easy use
this battery-operated smoke detector works for 10 years and doesn't get old, it includes all the screws and tools that I need to install this. It easily detects smoke and has an easy turn-off button as well.

Easy to fit and reassuring to have
This is easy to fit and is so reassuring to have.It is worth emphasising that the smoke alarm twists onto the fitted base, but it's essential to give it a really firm twist before it will work. Just fitting it and walking away without testing it won't save anybody in the event of a fire, even though the smoke alarm would be perfectly content and safe sitting on the ceiling! The extra twist (it's quite stiff to do it) will result in a red light flash, and then if you press the central test button, it will sound and you know that you and your household will have the protection that you need to sleep soundly. The smoke alarm comes with a sheet of sticky plastic stuck over the front so that it's protected before being fitted (obviously this needs peeling off for it to actually work when fitted!).Peace of mind for the next 10 years, but only if we test it every few weeks! This is much better than our old one
