Don't waste your money on this.
I am 6'1 and 250lbs this will not effectively work around my lower extremities to stop bleeding. The other part that bothers me is the directions state "not intended to be used by the general public", but here you are selling this and marketing it to the general public. Do yourself a favor and buy either a C.A.T or a SOFT-W.TCCC Instructor

no crank=no bueno
without a crank, I can't even get it tight enough around my thigh to noticeably slow down capillary refill in my toes. that's when I'm not hurt. There is no way I could get it on my arm effectively if I lost use of either hand.

I wanted to like this product. I got it for an every day carry and thought it would be a nice sleek piece of kit. I had heard mixed review on the gen 1 and wanted to try the gen 2 in my favorite color no less. I deployed the RAT it was quick and don’t do much once it was on. I am sure this product has its place and might work well in small people or with every accurate placement. for me with the time effort and effect i’d rather use a CAT or anything else. I’m super bummed about it I really wanted to like it and have it be a fast easy edc, but sadly my 1970s soviet tourniquet works better. I’d say stay far away unless you are using for shooting up or maybe kids.

Easy to carry, but wouldn't trust it to work.
This thing is small, but I doubt you'll evdry stop a big bleed with one of these. They are too small and too had to use under stress. If you're going to carry one, practice A LOT. and even then, I doubt this thing will work all that well. also one hand manipulation would be very hard if not impossible.

Good option for space saving, smaller carry. Does not replace the CAT.
I’ve lots of experience with all sorts of combat application tourniquets. Of course my primary go to option is a CATS. However it takes up valuable space on my outer carrier body armor. That’s why I went with a RATS for the vest carry. Now mind you I still carry a CAT in my thigh pocket. It’s always good to have 2 options because when you need one your likely to need two. This is a great second option or something to get you to a better option or till the ambulance arrives. Also it may not work as efficiently on large people because of how many times you have to wrap it to get the extremities blood supply mitigated. NOW MIND YOU IT TAKES PRACTICE. Like anything else, even the CAT, you have to practice with it and until it becomes second nature. Don’t practice until you get it right, practice until you can’t get it wrong. Just some advice from 21 yrs of experience.

Easy To Use
This is my favorite tourniquet! For me, it's the fastest of the four types I tried. This works on very small limbs like that of a dog, or small child. I've heard the argument that the size isn't important because you can just hold a small limb with your hand, but I think that's ridiculous. I might not have the strength to hold it tight enough for a long time, nor can I be sure that I won't need that hand for something else. The SWAT-T was just too hard to use; It was good for a small limb, but was too hard to stretch and took too much fussing to get it in place. The Gen 7 CAT was very good, but didn't pack as small and it was hard to use on small limbs, the SOFTT-Wide was very good as well, and packed smaller than the Gen 7 CAT but still had the same problem with small limbs.I found the RATS clones from China and thought I could save some money, but those turned out to be crap. The strap isn't as wide, long, or thick, and the stitching came undone when I was practicing on myself, which rendered it useless. This is the right product for me.

I’m buying in to compression tourniquets
*I’m copying and pasting to review two tourniquets here together, pay attention to which one I’m talking about*In the search for less expensive alternatives to the CAT and SOF-T, I found a bunch of different ones. The two I really liked on Amazon were the RATS and the SWAT-T. They work in a different fashion from the traditional windlass variety, but are very simple and very fast. Like anything, you need to practice and get familiar. I haven’t used either in a real scenario as of yet, but have practiced on several adults of all sizes and my 5 and 8 years olds, all on upper and lower extremities, and most verifying absence of pulses by palpation and SpO2 with waveform. No failures with either tourniquet. The SWAT-T I would NOT recommend for SELF aid to the UPPER extremity, it’s doable with practice but slow and not the one I’d want to stake my life on due to the difficulty involved, that’s my only negative finding there. Self aid to lower extremity or buddy aid, no problems at all. Other wise it’s an easy to use, very fast, very effective tourniquet. The RATS takes some getting used to for self application of an upper extremity as well, but a little practice and it’s not bad. The biggest thing there is keeping all the slack out and keeping the bands as close together as possible. Overall, I think I’ll stick with these. Most of the people at work (EMT’s and paramedics) also seemed impressed with them and found them easy to use after a demonstration.

A MUST HAVE for your EDC. Get some training on how and when to use a TQ!Update: I recently ordered two more RATS TQs. As a member of Fire Rescue/EMS, and more importantly Dad, these TQs in my opinion are a must have. Yes there are other tourniquets out on the market, and very good ones, but none are as easily carried day-to-day as is the RATS. Remember, it’s only good if you have it readily accessible and with you when something happens. I thought highly enough of this product, tested it out and trained with it, that I bought two more: one for each of my kids away at school. We trained on how to use it on themselves as well as someone else who may need it. Train, train and train some more. God willing, you’ll never need it.

Essential life-saving gear
So easy to use, instructional video from their website made it simple to practice with. At around $25 CDN this tourniquet belongs in anyone's first aid kit, backpack, bug out bag etc. In minutes I was able to restrict blood flow on myself, with zero practical training I know I could use it on a bleeding victim, it's that easy. There is no actual way to mess up because it can slip on a limb either direction, because the line is so thin, it can tighten VERY hard, even over clothes. Unlike more expensive and fancier looking CAT tourniquet types, this RATS tourniquet can be used on kids and pets, it slides down to tiny diameters. Will get more!
