You can apply it, but I soon stopped using it because whwever I needed quick access to the freezer it was in the way. It could trap heat too.

I got this one as it would fit most sides of my chest freezer but it is a bit on the larger side for my needs - but the others would not fit otherwise - yet, this one has a strap that helps get it tighter. I like the material, seems to be of great quality.
