Love the length, the retracting force, and the stainless hook. The locking mechanism is a bit tough to move; if it were a little less challenging to lock, I would have given it a 5 star rating.

Though I haven't actually used this yet, it seems to be exactly what I needed. I also bought two for my friends. The intention is to use Gear Keeper to tether cameras while dirt biking (trails) and powered paragliding. It is strong and heavy duty and I can't imagine it dropping a camera. Though designed for a point-and-shoot or likely a camera a little bigger, I would've liked to have used it for my HD pro video camera while PPGing over Moscow when I had nothing (it was an impromptu flight). I think it would've handled the extra weight of the video camera just fine. Construction seems top-notch and I would expect this to take the abuse to which I will subject it. Is there a problem? Maybe one: The distance from attachment clip (to body) and attachment clip (to gear) is longer than I expected. This will allow the camera to swing around too much without some sort of additional anchor - like Velcro. But this would not be to support weight, only to prevent swinging/bouncing. This is why I rate the Gear Keeper at 4 (instead of 5) stars, as now I will have to do a little bit more to make it perfect for my needs. Check out the DVDs " Into the Wind , the Sport of Powered Paragliding" (2006) and "Into the Wind 2, the Adventure Continues" (2011) to see the aerial footage that I wished I had this Gear Keeper for.

I liked that it holds my camera reeled up but with a little pull it’s available for instant use. Have always trusted these for securing my gear while diving and ensuring that all my expensive items come back to the surface with me.
