Lidice [DVD] [Region 2] (English audio)

Although based on a true story of the Nazis getting revenge on the assassination of one of their officers I found this quite a slow and at times boring film.it was well acted and the soundtrack didn't feel cheap but it just didn't do much. I thought the gassing of the children was awful but part of the Nazis revenge and the main leading role of Karel rodder (a lonely place to die) was convincing being the distraught husband/father. I like learning about the holocaust but found the first hour of this was a bit too slow. There are English subtitles and its 2hrs long. Not bad really, just not great either.

The story of Lidice is a great story. However, this movie is boring and disjointed. At no time did I feel any suspense or excitement. The planning and assassination attempt on Heydrich was glossed over. After all, the annihilation of Lidice was the result of the revenge exacted by the Germans for his death. This movie is nowhere like the story I have read and watched ie Anthropoid and Operation Daybreak. I even vaguely recall a good made for television movie of the event.

This disc is advertised as having English audio. It does not. I would have been happy if it had English subtitles ( which I was expecting) but it does not. This disc is totally useless unless you can speak Czech or Polish or read Polish subtitles. I was looking forward to watching this but I am VERY disappointed with this purchase which is being marketed under false representation.

Well produced & well acted Czech film focusing on the shocking aftermath in Lidice, of Heydrich's assassination. Worthy addition to movies such as Operation Daybreak, Anthropoid & The Man with the Iron Heart

A good realistic film but some of the photography seemed to be too dark.
