I live in an area with a criminal element that periodically steals boat trailers from boaters while they are out on the river/lake. I can't imagine the disappointment and anger (not to mention, inconvenience) these victims feel when they get back to the ramp! As a result, I have always used a locking hitch pin. It's just a sad extra step that is needed in this day and age. Of course, it is yet ANOTHER key on my key ring. I ordered this Beech Lane combination lock hitch pin to replace my keyed pin. I'm very pleased with the design and build with a few small complaints. A fourth digit would compound the difficulty of guessing the combo by an order of magnitude. A dedicated and mildly intelligent thief (is that an oxymoron?) could figure out that they could start at 000 and end at 999 and they are going to eventually hit the combo. Fortunately, the majority of the thieves in my area are neither dedicated, patient, nor intelligent. They will see the lock and move on to the next guy's trailer that has a cotter pin securing the hitch pin. My other complaint is in regard to the steel used in the construction. I suspect the item is painted black because it is not stainless steel. As soon as the paint gets scratched and worn by normal use, rust is going to set it. More so, in my case since my boat is periodically launched into the bays/ocean here on the west coast. Not a “deal breaker” issue, buuuut... I do like the dust cover over the lock number mechanism. My old keyed lock (which is rusty as you can see) has no cover and, after the off-season, it takes a bit of WD-40, jiggling, and key-pressing the loosen up the mechanism. The price point ($25) is obviously higher than some keyed hitch pins, but the convenience, security, and peace of mind make it completely reasonable in my book. But for the two small complaints, this would be a five star product.

This works well and I’m thrilled! I don’t use a trailer all the time, so I’m thrilled I don’t need a key! The combo is easy to set and it works well.

The media could not be loaded. This is a great solution to keeping your hitch locked up. I’ve had the key type before but I always have trouble keeping track of where I put the keys. This combination lock allows you to set your own 3-digit combo so you have fewer keys to keep track of. Definitely recommend!

This is a great hitch lock. The combination feature is great so I don't have to remember to carry a key. If it's my receiver, just fine and held my bike rack in just fine. Easy to install and uninstall and nothing to lose! So so far so good!

I don't do a lot of towing, but when I do, I want to ensure that my trailer hitch is protected from theft. This locking hitch pin works well for my needs. It was very easy to set up the combination, and it locks the hitch in place. Time will tell how it holds up, but at this point, it is exactly what I needed. It is a little more expensive than the key locks, but I really don't want to have to keep up with another key.

I tow a camper with my Toyota 4Runner and was looking for a combination locking hitch pin so I have one less key to lose. This arrived promptly, and was easy to set-up right out of the box. The instructions were clear and concise. Things I noted about the lock itself: - the finish is excellent and seems durable - The combination is easy to set - There is a rubber cap to keep the combination dials out of the weather. - The lock itself is well made - It works like it shouldThings to consider: - Using only a three digit combination, it wouldn't take long for someone to go through all the possible options. - The rubber cap doesn't seem to fit that well and comes loose while driving. - the lock body is rather large. This is fine for most vehicles, but it was a bit tight on the 4Runner due to the shape of the bumper cover around the hitch receiver. - I haven't tried a "failure" test on it, so I can't say how well the locking mechanism would hold up to someone determined to defeat the lock and steal your hitch ball/trailer, but it will definitely keep an honest person honest. LOLIn all, this is a good, affordable locking hitch pin. I like the combination lock and think it's an overall good design. I would get it again.
