It's Still Cool
=========================================== ===NH-D15 G2 for the AM5 Ryzen 7 9800X3D=== This will be my third NH-D15, all of which are in use and working flawlessly. You can see my past reviews for the NH-D15 G1 under the top reviews of that product page. The G2 is updated with newer NF-A14x25r G2 fans (vs NF-A15), 8 heat pipes (vs 6), and 20% more surface area from what the specs say, and the same 6 YEAR warranty. The installation kit is surprisingly better than the G1, which was already really good. The G2 is quieter than the G1 by a good amount, it doesn't drone as much under load, and seems to come back down in temperature very fast. This still comes with thermal paste as well, and a new paste guard. I absolutely recommend going with the G2 if you're moving to a higher-end AM5 or LGA1700 chip. Could you go with a G1 on AM5/LGA1700... Possibly, but it may not work as well, and you might need to buy the NM-AM5/4-MP83 mounting kit depending on when you bought your G1. I can't link it here, but Noctua's site has an FAQ link on each variant's product page that links to a very neat "Which version of the NH-D15 G2 should I buy (LBC, Standard or HBC)?" page with a comparison table on it. You can also just web search that title a find it right away. I can't speak about the HBC for Intel and all its parts and install, but most of this will likely mirror just fine to that variant. It's interesting that 3 variants of these coolers are now offered. I ended up buying this LBC for the AM5 knowing that with the past two I've owned I didn't move them to new systems, I just bought a new one each time. I know some people have bought the generic variant of the G2 and it also works fine, better if the offset is used. So far there's no Chromax variant that I'm aware of, it's probably still too new for them to start releasing even more models of it. The build quality of the hardware is outstanding, none of the parts feel cheap or of poor manufacturing. Assembly and installation is easy to follow even though it looks way too large to sit on the socket. Some may be concerned about strain on the CPU/socket but I'd say it's comparable to some AIOs in this category, the pipes on some AIOs can absolutely put tension on a CPU socket. The RAM I'm using, like with the G1, is still fairly tall. However, the width of the Fractal Torrent does allow the secondary fan to fit just fine even after raising the front fan to fit the taller RAM. If you're unsure about the optional secondary fan fitting, take a 140mm case fan and set it on top of your RAM (vertically as if it were on the cooler sitting above the RAM). If it still clears the side of your case with a few millimeters to spare then you're likely OK. Both 140mm fans are almost fully adjustable, they move/notch up and down on wire clips using the heat-sink fins as mounting points. The fans are 140mm with 120mm mounts, probably for compatibility to fit a 120mm fan as the optional for those with taller RAM. ================================================== Keywords to help searches for fitment and usage: -Ryzen 7 9800X3D -MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk -Fractal Torrent (full size) -G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo

Amazing Air Cooler, satisfied!
Switched from AIO to this Air CPU cooler, I would say having this is so much better than an AIO as I can keep my mind at ease without worrying about the pump failing or any leaks, AIOs also rely on fans just like air coolers. This CPU cooler is silent and pushes a lot of air, I used this as an intake from the back of my case (Ncase m3) and it works perfectly! Although I didn't expect it to be very big, feel like it wouldn't fix in some ITX cases, but it fits just nice in the Ncase m3 grater. Mounting is so much simple and easy than mounting an AIO like the liquid freezer III pro or any AIO in that matter, I really appreciate the screwdriver and the cables that came along with the cooler as it helped with mounting the cooler, the accessories also made the product feel more premium as expected when you pay almost 200 bucks for an air cooler.

10 years.... for this
10 years of refinement from the legend. This cooler is awesome. Using a 7800X3D. I was using a U12A chromax cooler. Great cooler by the way. That was able to keep the CPU below 63C with Cyberpunk 2077. Most other games it hovered around 55C. With this D15 Gen 2, it's able to keep the CPU under 56C. Haven't seen it go above that. It terms of actual stress tests I haven't done anything, but I'm sure it'll have no issue with a 7800X3D. Not exactly a hard chip to cool. It's a behemoth of a cooler that comes with the improved NF14X25 Gen 2 fans. They are so quiet. At 80% I can barely start to hear the fans. My 140mm Be Quiet! Light wings I started to hear at around 45%. The entire fan feels of quality thanks to LCP (liquid crystal polymer) material. The packaging is as nice as any other Noctua product. Lots of extra goodies including thermal paste, 4 pin two-way fan splitter, Two 4 pin fan extensions, torx t20 screw driver (thank you Noctua! Torx is so much better than Phillips), AM5 thermal paste guard, and a few other things. Overall great cooler espically for AM5 seeing that it's the LBC version. Now the unfortunate part. It's $150, which is tough for a lot of people. Especially when Thermalright's dual tower coolers are getting close to the same results for almost 4X less the price. For me, the price is justified thanks to the quality of everything, plus the extras the cooler comes with. Plus the fans are leagues above anything that I've used recently. I'd really recommend going on YouTube and watching Gamer's Nexus' review of the cooler if you're on the fence. You can tell Noctua really put the passion and work into engineering this cooler. I'm glad it took them so long and had to delay it from last year. It shows the quality of work.

Expensive, but quality and works
Adequate for a 9950x3d; making it one of few air-cooling options for 99xx series AMD CPUs. Its surprisingly quiet to me, although the case I chose and noise from system cooling fans cancels some of it out. Isolated it still is very quiet to me, with no annoying tones or the dreaded double fan throbbing noise. Price is out of sight; but it is clearly made very well. I recommend using a support on thinner pcb motherboards, especially those lacking a generous steel support in the back. Be sure to remove the heatsink if you are transporting your PC because this thing is HEAVY and could easily damage a socket, board, or CPU if shaken or jostled. In a Lian Li 216 case with good air flow, and a 9950x3d (stock settings) I got the following results with 22c ambient temp: 42~c idle temps 60-75c during long gaming sessions with little or no boost throttling 92c with prime95 for 30min at 100% utilization (CPU throttling) -Not suitable for Overclocking of 79xx/99xx series processors. Not enough thermal headroom. Just fine for normal use assuming ambient temps are under 26c (79f); and there is adequate ventilation within the case. I used Arctic MX-6. Noctua's pastes dried out too fast for me, IME. Unfortunately, Amazon didn't carry or Noctua doesn't sell a model with black fans or a totally blacked out version for the LBC variant. Beige doesn't go with anything in this case, including my other Noctua fans that are black frames and blades... Mounting the heatsink is simple enough. I just followed instructions provided and used the driver, also included.

Excellent CPU cooler for AMD AM5 CPU!
-Excellent packaging -comes with two fans, heatsink, low-noise adapter, Y-splitter cable, noise pads, thermal paste, screwdriver, spacer, screws, badge, and bracket kits for both Intel and AMD. -Yes, you will need to remove the original screws that was included from your motherboard in order to install the cooler. -Not to mention, it also comes with AMD CPU guard to avoid spilling the thermal paste -it's very easy to install the fan and heatsink -the temperature and noise level were superb, very quiet, and runs cool around 60-70 degrees celsius on average, regardless the application you're running on -However, the heatsink is tall which you will need a case that can fit up to 190mm height. Yes, I use ASUS ROG Hyperion GR701 and it fits no problem. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and it does fit no problem with MSI MEG Godlike X870E E-ATX motherboard as well as AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D CPU.

Tower is an understatement!
This appears to be a great CPU cooler, but its *massive* size means it likely will not fit in many computer cases. Pay close attention to the size, especially the height of the cooler, to make sure it will fit in your build (it did not in mine, even though I have an open-air case). Also, if your motherboard is mounted vertically in the case, consider some type of support, it is heavy.

The fans are magic
I have built 40+ computers over the last 50 years. The AM5 platform that I built originally had a Gigabyte 680E Mater mb and 7900X3D for a cpu. The 9xxx Ryzens came out, so I updated to a 9950x. The original configuration had my first water AIO cooler, a NZXT Kraken. It worked well enough except the software sucked. I had to route the cooling fans to the motherboard fan headers because the Kraken 360 software constantly ramped up and down the fan speed. There was a delay between the cpu load and the liquid temperature that controlled the fan speed. It worked but was twice as loud as my 5950x based system. I thought that air cooling was a better choice because I was better able to tune it for noise. I removed the Kraken and installed the Noctua G2 LC which was very easy to install. Like I mentioned earlier I have installed hundreds of pc fans. I never thought much about it because a fan is a fan. Nope. The 140 mm fans on this cooler are the most premium fan I have ever seen. Silent. Vibration free. Quiet. If they cost twice as much, I don’t care. The cooler is an excellent 8 tube unit that was well designed and constructed. After installing, it worked perfectly. I ran a few benchmarks to see and hear the performance. The Geekbench 6 numbers were 10% above the highest listed rating. I only have a RTX-3090 but still was 99% faster than all of the gaming pc’s on earth on 3D Mark. It is only 3 days after the Ryzen 9950x was released, so it was not in wide use. The 9950x is rated for 5.7GHz, but easily pulled 5.9 GHz in benchmarks using the Noctua cooler. Highly recommended. Yes, despite the price, it is worth every penny.

Measure your case before buying this product, while I still recommend it!!!
In the picture, my cable management is not good, sorry for the eyesore gore :( Backstory: I got the Noctua NH-D15 G2 LBC from Amazon, and I put it into my computer. I try closing my case (NZXT H6 FLOW RGB) and It wont close, and when it did close, one of the fans didn't spin. I therefore spent couple of hours trying to resolve the issue, to conclude the issue. My ram sticks (CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR4) were too tall, first I considered putting my ram sticks into non optimised positions. But after I tried that, I got a better idea, I took the heat-sinks off of my ram sticks. Then the cooler fit and it worked perfectly --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Honest Review: A bit on the expensive side, but does the job and is beautifully built Even if brown isn't your colour in mix with beige, this cooler does not disappoint. Its quiet, very quiet. Even on max RPM, my case fans, were louder and were running at max (obviously) but I'm getting to the point that it is a good CPU cooler and that it is worth the money Obviously there are better competitors who I will not name for obvious reasons. But Noctua is a very reputable brand and I recommend their products, weirdly that they put a product number on their merchandise (sweaters/jumpers, t-shirts). Overall, I recommend this cooler for anyone that is willing to spend a bit more money on quality materialised goods such as Noctua products. But if you're on a very tight budget, I would stick to the competitors like I mentioned earlier.
