In 2003, director Marcus Nispel made a lasting impression on horror fans with his box-office-topping remake The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Six years later, he turned his camera to another slasher icon, none other than the hulking masked killer Jason Voorhees, in his gore-soaked remake of Friday the 13th.A group of oblivious teenagers choose Camp Crystal Lake as the destination for a weekend getaway. Among them, the young Clay Miller (Jared Padalecki, Supernatural) is not looking for fun and frolics, but for his sister Whitney who disappeared around the lake six weeks earlier. The trip turns into a waking nightmare as the bloodthirsty Jason emerges from the shadows, wielding a deadly machete and out for blood. Cut off from civilization, these youths discover too late that Crystal Lake bears the scars of a violent past as they uncover the terrifying events that spurred the masked killer’s quest for violent vengeance.Nispel’s taut direction and the stunning cinematography by Daniel Pearl – whose credits include the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre as well as the remake – bring a fresh and terrifying new perspective to the infamous hockeymasked maniac, sure to bring chills and thrills to even hardened horror veterans!4K ULTRA HD BLU-RAY LIMITED EDITION CONTENTSTwo cuts of the film, the Theatrical Cut (97 mins) and the extended Killer Cut (105 mins)Double-sided foldout poster featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Gary Pullin Limited edition Greetings from Crystal Lake Postcard Illustrated collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the film by Matt Konopka and Alexandra West Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Gary Pullin DISC ONE: THEATRICAL CUT4K (2160p) Ultra HD Blu-ray presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) of the Theatrical Cut Original 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundOptional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearingBrand new audio commentary by director Marcus NispelBrand new audio commentary by writers Mark Swift and Damian ShannonBrand new interview with director Marcus NispelBrand new interview with writers Mark Swift and Damian ShannonBrand new interview with cinematographer Daniel PearlA Killer New Beginning, an exclusive video essay about why horror fans shouldn’t fear remakes, what 2009’s Friday the 13th remake gets right, and why the film serves as a perfect template for future franchise remakes by film critic Matt Donato Excerpts from the Terror Trivia TrackThe Rebirth of Jason Voorhees archival featuretteHacking Back / Slashing Forward archival featuretteThe 7 Best Kills archival featuretteDeleted scenesOriginal teaser, trailer and TV spotsElectronic press kitImage galleryDISC TWO: KILLER CUT4K (2160p) Ultra HD Blu-ray presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) of the Killer CutOriginal 5.1 DTSHD Master Audio soundOptional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearingBrand new audio commentary by film critics Alexandra Heller-Nicholas and Josh Nelson

A Mixed Bag in the Friday the 13th Franchise
The 2009 remake of "Friday the 13th" offers a mixed experience for fans of the franchise. While it attempts to capture the essence of the original series, it falls short in some aspects. On the positive side, the movie brings back the iconic Jason Voorhees and the familiar camp setting, which adds a nostalgic touch for long-time fans. The film also delivers on the expected slasher elements with creative kills and suspenseful sequences. However, where it stumbles is in its attempt to modernize the story. Some character choices and plot developments feel forced or lack depth, impacting the overall impact of the movie. Additionally, it may not fully capture the original charm of the series for those looking for a faithful continuation."Friday the 13th" (2009) offers a blend of the familiar and the new, making it a decent addition to the franchise but not quite reaching the heights of the original. With a mix of solid horror and some missed opportunities, it's a movie that will likely appeal to die-hard fans while leaving room for improvement.

Landed at my place on Friday the 13th (literally!!!)
Jason slices and dices, more clearly, more fiercely, and the machetty echoes in 4K UHD. A perfect finish to one of the most beloved horror franchises of all time! Arrow has done a beautiful restoration with award-winning special features and packaging. Beautiful!

Good "13th" film, hits all the marks, (almost) nothing new
There are a few people who's reviews say this film is cliche, and one person said that the kills were "unimaginative" because he just hacks everyone up with the machete. I think I must have watched a different movie, because that's not at all what I saw....First, this feels like part III because of the rehash of part II at the beginning, then moves through the prologue very quickly. The "main" story feels like VI with a few twists thrown in.This is definitely a new Jason, although subtly different than the predecessors. This Jason chases people, not just doing the patented "Michael Myers" zombie walk, where you question how someone can flee at a dead run in the woods for quite some time, and then Jason, lumbering along, is somehow right behind them. This Jason also has an explanation for how he moves from place to place so quickly (no spoilers). This Jason is also quite clever, not just a zombified killer, but a hunter. There are 2 sex scenes (rather explicit) and several extended female topless scenes. Based on the reviews I had read, I expected much worse, but the sex scenes are only slightly more explicit than those of the original series, especially the later sequels. There are multiple bloody deaths, and a couple of gory ones, but based on reviews I had read, I expected much more explicit gore. Most of the deaths are of people being stabbed or otherwise impaled, with lots of blood but almost no guts. There is one burn victim, and body parts here and there (no spoilers). There is a lot of drug use depicted (marijuana), and that is my greatest concern. The movie almost reinforces that drugs are bad, as all the drug users end up getting killed -- drug use seems to be one of Jason's "triggers".I screened this yesterday, in the context of a parent of a teenage son, and I now have almost no concerns as long as I watch it with him. He's already seen ALL of the original series, plus Jason vs. Freddy. As a parent, based on the reading I had done, I told him there was NO WAY he was going to watch it until I watched it first, but my concerns have been alleviated. If your kids are allowed to watch the other "13th" movies, there is ALMOST no difference -- the sex scenes are definitely SLIGHTLY more explicit, but the gore is more tame than some of the "extreme" deaths from the original series. The biggest concern for me, and the main reason I'm watching it WITH my son, was the amount of drug use depicted in the film.As a parent, I found almost no guidance among these comments, so I hope this helps.

Such a bad remake but pretty impressive release
This is the most genetic, lazy and sad attempt at a horror remake, awful characters and the film looks cheap too. However I will give credit where credit is due, this 4k release from arrow video is pretty well done. Transfer looks better than that terrible blu ray, and has cool limited edition special features inside! So in terms of the picture and sound quality it’s gets credit, just as the movie though it’s bad. Very bad.

Enjoyable watch for slasher fans - NOT suitable for kids
As a fan of slasher flicks and the Friday the 13th franchise, I enjoyed this take of Jason in the 21st century. The actor playing Jason was maybe the best part for me — even though Jason never speaks and is wearing a mask for the majority of the film, the actor did a great job with being intimidating, mysterious, scary, and even emoting some around plot lines around his mother. I believe this film was advertised as giving more insight into Jason and his origin, and although there are a few aspects of this, I would definitely not classify this as a prequel, but more so its own standalone storyline. I have watched it multiple times and will watch it again — it is not a critically acclaimed storyline or anything, but it seems like a given to me that that is somewhat expected in this genre. I think anyone who likes slasher films will have an enjoyable and fun watch. For parents: I would NOT recommend this for children / younger teens. It is extremely graphic and gory with many on-screen violent kills. There is also numerous scenes with nudity, sex, and sexual references — possibly the most in the entire franchise. Lots of profanity and swearing, and also drug use. Basically, typical slasher tropes taken to almost an ironic or satirical level, though it is unclear to me if it was intended that way.
