Should be in everyone's kitchen!
I wasn’t expecting to be this impressed, but this knife has genuinely surprised me. The build quality feels solid and well-balanced, with a comfortable grip that makes it easy to use for longer periods without any strain. The blade arrived razor‑sharp right out of the box and has held its edge beautifully, even after regular use. What really stands out is how versatile it is — whether I’m prepping vegetables, slicing meat, or doing more detailed work, it handles everything smoothly and cleanly. It feels like a much more expensive knife, and the overall craftsmanship is excellent. If you’re looking for a reliable, sharp, and well-made knife at a great price, this one is absolutely worth it. I’m genuinely pleased with the purchase and would happily recommend it to anyone.

At this price this is a VERY GOOD KNIFE.
This review is on a knife(Nakiri) I chose and purchased myself. OK so it is Chinese made but you don't get genuine Japanese made at this price point. However at this price point.....£31..... I thought I would order it and see what it is like....after all I could always send it back if it wasn't very good. Well it most certainly is not going back. The knife arrived well packaged in a nice box with shaped foam interior, in a plastic cover with edge protection guards at heel and tip and an information booklet (get your reading glasses out for this...the print is very small). Initial impressions?....This is nice.....very nice. The construction is 3 layer which can be seen clearly along the cutting edge where the layers are visible. The cutting edge is claimed to be 60HRC which I can not confirm but have no reason to dispute that claim because this knife is 'sharp sharp sharp'. How it will hold its edge only time and use will tell. It is nicely made and the handle complements the blade perfectly. It is of a good weight, not too light, not too heavy. It is nicely balanced. The handle is nicely sculptured and guides the hand to a very comfortable position in order to use the knife correctly. I also like that the handle is fitted in the Japanese style and not the Western style where the handle is additionally secured with three rivets. The clean 'non riveted' handle adds to the aesthetics of this knife. One minor criticism is where the wood of the handle meets metal there is, in a very few places the slightest of difference in dimensions meaning you can feel a very very slight lip.......but honestly at this price point this is such a minior thing as makes no real difference to the quality. So conclusion: OVERALL QUALITY OF BUILD AND FINISH........At this price point it is exceptional. DESIGN.....I REALLY LIKE IT. The satin sheen is very pleasing on the eye. The wood of the handle is equally as pleasing to look at and hold. IN USE......Pleasant to hold. Fits nicely into large or smaller hands making it ideal for men and women. Makes cutting a breeze. PRICE.......EXCEPTIONAL VALUE FOR MONEY.

Excellent balance of sharpness, quality, and comfort
I’ve been using this HOSHANHO 7 Inch Nakiri Knife for a few weeks now, and it has quickly become one of my go to knives in the kitchen. The blade is razor sharp straight out of the box and slices through vegetables, meat, and even tougher produce like squash with ease. The Nakiri shape makes chopping vegetables especially quick and efficient it feels like the knife does the work for you. The build quality is impressive. The high carbon stainless steel blade feels durable and holds its edge well after regular use. I also appreciate the ergonomic pakkawood handle it’s comfortable to grip, well balanced, and gives a very secure feel even during longer prep sessions. What stands out most is how versatile this knife is. While it excels at vegetables, I’ve also used it for meats and general kitchen tasks without any problem. It’s lightweight enough for precision but still sturdy enough for heavier chopping. Overall, this knife feels like a premium tool at a very reasonable price point. If you’re looking for a sharp, well crafted, and versatile kitchen knife, this one is an excellent choice. Highly recommended!

Heavy knife.
This is a substantial knife/cleaver that will take a bit of getting used to. Seems well made but the heaviness of the blade makes me concerned about keeping it sharp. Overall it was a good price and weight made cutting up a chicken much simpler. Personally I still prefer a thinner blade.

lovely knife
so, when buying a good kitchen knife, there is so much that one has to take into consideration. what is your budget? how much will you use it? what is the weight and dimensions? is the handle good for your hand? how sharp do you need it? is it easy to sharpen? if budget was no option, i would buy Japanese and i would go to a shop and try them out for all the things i previously mentioned. but a really good set of Japanese knives are north of £400 to £500. for me, this knife is a great compromise. i wanted a Nakari knife. they are so good for chopping salad and vegetable items really quickly, with minimal effort. (keep knife sharp, get good whetstones). it probably wouldn't be good for a chef, because they use all day everyday, but for a home cook, it's great. the handle swung me. so ergonomic. made of wood. a word of caution. it was the Japanese over centuries that made knife making an art. there are many Chinese copies of Japanese knives out there. also, beware of the Damascas pattern con. making 67 layer damascas knives takes time and effort. alot of these knives are machine made and not the same quality as hand made. some people are also putting just the pattern of damascas on the blade. this is not true folded steel. look out for cons.

Couteau de cuisine japonais, très joli avec de belles finitions. Il est de très bonne qualité, il coupe bien la viande mais aussi les os. La poignée permet une bonne prise en main afin d’être précis dans les découpes. Très bon rapport qualité prix.
