Would heat shrink around the jacket help add protection?** A: Heat shrink wouldn't be necessary. These are meant to plug into the red and black posts in the back of your receiver and speakers. There wouldn't be any electrical shock, but would get feedback or potentially damage your speakers if touching other wired speaker connections. **Q: Is the outside of the plug conductive? Is there a hazzard of a short circuit between the 2 banana plugs?** A: The outside screw on cover appears to be some type metal so I would say yes they are conductive. Once plugged in they should not contact each other while signal applied.
