Review: Excellent and a must have - Very helpful information for anyone who wants to bake with natural yeast .. even if you do things a little bit differently this book will provide you with the information you need to care for your starter and will help a lot with troubleshooting, building your starter or reducing your starter... a must have for anyone making natural yeast a part of their life. Very nice recipes in this book as well however, the only bummer is that the recipes do often use a stand mixer and if you dont' have one of those of course you can knead it by hand.. it's just one always wonders if the recipe would have turned out better if you had the equipment.. that's no big deal though just a feedback that the recipes could have stated whether the stand mixer is optional or if it was essential for a specific recipe .... it's good to know
Review: Beautiful Easy Informative Just what I have been looking for! - I am in the natural health field, I have owned a health food store for years and my husband is a holistic Chiropractic Physcian.I was intrigued with the health aspect of a fermented wheat product but couldn't find much information in that area. I found some recipes and have been baking some pancakes breads using a sourdough start I got at a preparedness fair. Finding this wonderful simple book has been JUST WHAT I HAVE LOOKED FOR! It is written in a personable fun manner and has the answers to health information that I have searched for, such as can the natural yeast products be used by those with gluten intolerance and are the health benefits of the wild ferment(sourdough start)lost in the heat of cooking?...the answers are yes, and no, read the book. I recently took this book along with my starter to my daughters house when I visited. We had a ball using the recipes and talking about what I learned from the book. We even picked some wild juniper berries to experiment with making my own start from the yeast on the berries. The book offers where to get a free yeast start and how to make and keep your own start...forever. Great gift!

Just got this book and I am super impressed! Only six chapters into it and I have learned so much more than I didn't even realize I didn't know! Also really love the way the book is made. The pages lay flat so it is easy to use as you work. Haven't found anything so far that has not been explained exceptionally well so everyone can understand what she is saying. Love the way she has researched what she is talking about also. Doesn't come across as a "listen to me, I know it all" person. So far I love this woman and hope to continue learning more and more about this type of baking from her. Another thing is she goes into the health benefits and things about gluten etc. that we are all hearing about nowadays. Seems everyone jumps on the bandwagon when they hear something bad, like the gluten rage thing. I think she presents a very good case on these types of things. Really makes you think before hopping on that wagon. I am sure this book will become one of my very favorites, not only in the kitchen but because it is actually a very very interesting and fast read. I just don't want to put it down, except to run to the kitchen to try out all these new things I didn't know. I'm an avid reader, but I cannot say the last time I read a "cook book style" book that really interested me much. And the way she keeps your attention is amazing! I would love to meet her someday if I ever get out there. But I can live vicariously thru her for the time being. Great book, I even got it on sale! Anyone who is even the least interested in making bread, or even the nutritional and historical value of bread products should get this book right away before it sells out.
