Learn how to grow wild and exotic, medicinally important, sustainable, and deeply delicious mushrooms right at your own home, just as people throughout the world have been doing for centuries. Mushrooms are healthy , packed with vitamins and antioxidants; rich with flavor , an excellent source of the fifth flavor know as umami; and can be used medicinally in teas and tinctures. By growing your own, you can enjoy these benefits while also enriching your soil , speeding up your composting , and even suppressing weeds โthough the biggest draw may be the magic of watching this unique form of life grow. Understanding how mushrooms grow is crucial to successfully cultivating them, and Mushroom Cultivation offers photo-illustrated instruction both on how mushrooms grow and how you can cultivate them yourself , with a focus on six types of mushroomโshiitake, oyster, wine cap, hericium, blewit, and agaricus. Youโll learn how to: Grow mushrooms, step by step, in a variety of different mediums: logs, straw, wood chips and sawdust, and compost Troubleshoot problems, including identification, underwatering, overwatering, and insects Store, dry, and freeze your mushroom harvest Cook with mushrooms, including variety-specific cooking tips and 8 tasty recipes Find supplies and more information with the resources listed at the back of the book After reading Mushroom Cultivation , youโll discover that growing a mushroom is really no more difficult than growing a tomato. You just need a slightly different set of skills. Picking your own fresh mushrooms at the peak of their flavor and nutrition is within your reach with this comprehensive, step-by-step guide. Very basic intro and quick overview
The book was beautiful to look at, though I thought that the pictures could have been more helpful in showing some of the information that was being discussed instead of just looking pretty. The information was good, and can definitely get you quickly started producing your own mushrooms. The types of mushrooms discussed were limited but I think that was most likely in order to make sure, as a beginner, you get off on the right foot and are successful. The layout will definitely get you easily started cultivating right away. It is a helpful book with a nice variety of cultivation options but definitely aimed at the beginner and after finishing it I was left with a feeling of needing to look elsewhere for more info (i.e. the "why" of things, more advanced techniques and other mushroom species). It was a quick read and well organized but I would imagine if you have done any mushroom cultivation or have read any other books, this would be mostly review. As a newbie, it was very informative and I will for sure be referring back to it.

A must have for any mushroom cultivator!
The book is detailed, lots of pictures and super simple to understand. You can start to apply the techniques right away in your mushroom beds, logs, hay or compost and sawdust/brown rice flour logs for growing inside your home as well.

Disappointing.
The pictures are nice but whenever it's the authors pictures, the subjects (the mushroom) are not nice. For a recent book, i would have expected much more information. Nothing new can be learned. Overall it's disappointing.
