Fantastic
Mortise Lock Set - Complete Vintage Door Knob Replacement Kit includes 2 Facia, 2 Keys, and 12 Screws - Antique Style Mortise Locks - for Interior Doors or Outside UseFantasticThis a fantastic replacement if it fits your door properly. It fit mine like it was made for it.My old doorknob has come off for years and rigging it to stay on was such a nuisance. Enter this replacement mortise lock set.I had no issues installing this. It took me about thirty minutes with removing the old one and cleaning out all the holes. I feel very lucky to have found this. I can easily close the door without having to lightly pull and praying the knob doesn’t pop off again lol. This is an excellent replacement mortise lock. It looks very pretty as well and comes with two skeleton keys.Highly recommend.

overall nice replacement but for the strike plate
This is overall a decent replacement for our ancient hardware. Looks very similar though the plate is a tiny bit narrower than the old one, so you can see the paint marks from before. The strike plate has been nothing but a nightmare for my husband to attach as it doesn't match or even come close to the old one. Even once installed, the mechanics of closing the door easily were more complicated than before. He finally just removed it entirely and will work to rebuild the entire area in the door jamIt does work

Good Alternative to Antique Fixture
The rating on this is largely based on the item's comparison to other standard mortise locks and knobs. Others are either very expensive or nearly impossible to locate in some antique relics store you have to drive to and hope they have some. When you do find used ones, they're almost always a mess--rusted, seized, missing parts, or just banged up (and still expensive anyway).I see in prior reviews that others have had some compatibility issues, but this lock fit the cutout in my particular door perfectly. Comes with every component necessary for a full replacement. Functions smoothly, and has a good look and tight operation to it. Replacement was as simple as unscrewing the old one and screwing in the new one.If I have gripes at all, it would be that the finish on the knobs looks like it might scratch easily. Since the undercoat is a golden brass color, that'll stand out like a sore thumb if it does.Very pleased with the product.

feels a bit cheap
Product being reviewed: Mortise Lock Set - Complete Vintage Door Knob Replacement Kit includes 2 Facia, 2 Keys, and 12 Screws - Antique Style Mortise Locks - for Interior Doors or Outside UseI got this to replace an old mortise door knob due to age and condition. While this does seem like it'd work, I'm ultimately not going to go through with replacing it. This new knob kit feels and looks cheap and is nothing like my original knob hardware. It's also bigger than my old knob. I'd have to chisel out a larger opening to accommodate this one. I guess if you were going for the old school look and didn't care about quality, this would be fine.

Great swap!
I used this product to replace an old rusted out door lock in our very old house. This was perfect! It cleaned up the look while still keeping the aesthetic we were going for. Very nice!

Beautiful
I'll be there first to admit I didn't install this quite right. I had an older version of this door handle for the basement door to the hatchway, and I chose this lock to replace it. This modern door has a much thinner internal mechanism than an old 1900s door. I ended up using some air dry clay to secure it in place (pictured). If you're installing this on a new door, you won't have this problem. If you're replacing an old handle, this might not be a perfect fit. That thing said, the rest of the installation was easy. The door handle was easily secured into place. Both knobs, and the internal mechanism moves beautifully, and it's very easy to lock/unlock the door with the beautiful keys that were included. This is a huge upgrade for my basement, and this high quality lock has so far performed perfectly!

Excellent for price point. Mortise door latch with skeleton key deadbolt lock.
Back in the day, homes had solid wood doors with mortise locks. A good-sized 1905 home would typically come with a few dozen skeleton keys, each numbered to associate with a particular door. Mortise locks work well for decades until the latch springs finally break, but fortunately can be opened up and easily repaired with a new spring. These days, a new mortise lockset will cost several hundred dollars. So I was curious about this set, which runs at less than 10% of the usual cost. The unit is reasonably well made for the price point and should provide long service. The metal quality is lightweight; there are two keys for the deadbolt, smallish doorknobs, and no lockout ability. The overall sizing for the lockset itself is typical for the early 1900s, so if you're replacing an older set, this should fit properly, but the latches and deadbolt are not spaced the way they usually were in that era. So long as you're comfortable replacing the latch (one is provided, but you may need some filler to make everything work properly if you're doing a replacement job), you'll be OK.You're actually getting more than I would have expected at this price point, but there's also no question that quality is lower than it would be with either a restored antique set (my usual recommendation) or a new expensive set.

Easy Installation & As Expected
We used this in a new build after searching for the 'right' antique options for months. So, we didn't have any installation issues as we were working with whatever sizing was required instead of fitting to something already in use. Installation was easy and everything, as far as I could tell, was as described.I do think the downside is that the metal is lighter and will probably scratch/not have as long of a life as an antique version, but that's the way it is with anything new these days.
