An emotional story
Interesting, well written and emotional too.

Surprise!
I ordered this play, A Shayna Maidel, and was anticipating the golden covered Sam French paperback edition, pictured. (I do have quite a collection of these - and Samuel French plays were always published in various colors of that cover.) The play arrived in excellent condition, about a week earlier than promised (always good), but it turned out to be a completely different version - a hardback edition, quite nice, with plenty of photos from the Broadway production. Surprise! While I felt a twinge that I didn't add another item to my mid-century Samuel French collection, I must admit the version I received was quite nice, and I'm very glad to have it.So, to sum up ... I think it behooves sellers to photograph the product so it appears EXACTLY as what's ultimately delivered .... but I have to admit he price was REALLY a bargain, the delivery was faster than expected, and what arrived was in excellent shape, and had additional bonus content! And lest I forget ... it's a lovely story, too.

Powerful and multifaceted: warning, spoilers.
Lebow's play reunites two sisters, one who escaped the Holocaust with her father, and the other who survived it, though the mother she remained with did not. Beautifully woven symbols of mirrors and mirroring, survivor guilt and jealousy, and family relationships intermingle in powerful and effective ways. And the ambiguity of the ending offers compelling commentary on the reader/viewer's desire for happy endings. A superb Holocaust-themed and woman-centered play to read, perform, and explore. (There is also the dreadful Hallmark Hall of Fame film version, Miss Rose White, which makes a good counterpoint for contrasting single-authored plays and corporate-produced good-feeling TV movies.
