Awesome Songbook from an Awesome Band
I disagree with the negative review on this book. Yes, it is a little unusual that there are songs that appeared in the 1st edition that reappear in the 2nd and that it’s not ALL new songs, but regardless the added songs are fantastic. Benighted, Coil, Death Whispered a Lullaby, Era, Harvest, Hope Leaves, In My Time Of Need, Patterns In The Ivy, Sorceress and Will O The Wisp are additions that represent the old and new eras of Opeth very well and that any guitar-playing Opeth fan will be happy to have accurate TABs for. Don’t give your 1st edition away, there are some songs that did not transfer over to the 2nd edition, so you need both. I don’t know how Mikael comes up with this stuff - I feel accomplished just being able to play it, I can’t imagine actually writing it. Love this book!

2nd edition vs volume 2
This is truly a second edition of the "Best of" -- by that I mean it includes some newer songs that the band has put since the 1st edition was published (including a new photo of the band on the cover). But as it is a new edition, rather than a second volume, it has many of the same songs the first edition did. I would rather have a new volume with all different songs. The description include the song list, so I knew going in -- just a head's up for those that don't compare the songs included in the description.

Shame on Hal Leonard!
This volume really deserves 1-1/2 stars, as Hal Leonard did this one on the cheap. Six songs from Volume One have been recycled here. While 10 of the 16 songs are new, they only constitute 56 of the book's 160 pages. Accurate Opeth transcriptions are worth their weight in gold, but for Volume Two, it appears as if they chose the easiest songs (with the fewest parts and solos) to transcribe. Volume One is very well done, this one is quite weak. C'mon Hal, if you're going to tackle some of the most creative guitar work ever recorded, at least put your back into it!

much worse than I was expecting (and I wasn't expecting much)
many transcriptions were incorrect, in such blatant ways that it's clear that these tabs didn't get much in the way of quality control. also, when you look at the track list, it's much heavier towards acoustic arrangements than I realized it would be.overall, the free offerings on tab sites are much better.

good book
One thing that should be noted, most of the songs in this book are from the Damnation album, and there are only three or four songs from the Death-metal Opeth. However, this book gives a good insight into Akkerfeldt's guitar technique and songwriting, and this is what was most important for me.
