It says for big and tall. my son is 6'3 and 170 lbs. so tall, but not big. what size should i get?

The large will be the best option. The robe is 52" inches long. The model in the image is 6'1" so most likely it will be just below your son's knee (mid calf). There will be plenty of extra fabric to wrap around him since the waist size is equivalent to a 60" inch pant.
