I exchanged the metal head for the plastic head **Q: How do you hang clothes to steam? Can you hang them from the steamer itself?** A: Yes, I use a plastic hanger bc the wood can stain your clothing. There is a spot to hang next to where you hook the hose at the top. Love this steamer. Word of warning, do not leave water in it when not in use. After each use, I take the water bucket out and allow it to continue steaming until the water in the machine is gone. This prevents spores from growing and prolongs usage of steamer I believe. **Q: metal vs plastic head** A: I would use heavy plastic gloves on both hands with people of any age. I found a package containing one glove on Amazon, but you need 2 for safety. I found well made gardening gloves at a discount store for less than $3.00. Please remember this safe tip. When you burn yourself, which you will certainly do without careful attention, and wearing gloves on both hands, Immediately get to the faucet as quickly as possible and run the coldest water possible on the burn site, (Even if you believe the burn is minor) this will stop the burning process on your skin and will nip it ending all damage. The faster you get your skin under water the less pain you will suffer and no scaring will develop. It works and is most important to remember this and teach your family this healthy tip most don't know. Never, anything oily like butter or oil of any kind. This is a nice place for the burn to intensify and cause more damage. I've had one for a couple of years now, and I love it! This is my favorite to date. I purchased the metal head so I could use the iron option, as well as I didn't like the idea of a plastic head heating up and offgassing. The house does get really warm but you have stream going through it so it's expected and similar to what I've had with other brands. The hanger bar is really nice and sturdy unlike some other brands. But the real deal is with the steam performance...I haven't been a clothing piece that it couldn't tackle yet. The head will drip if water accumulates as well, but again this is standard for this type of a steamer. The place is very long, the on off button is also very easy to access with your foot. The only thing I would change is maybe add a small bar on the side of the stand to hang the hanger from instead and make the bar a little taller. But all in all I'm very glad I bought this. It's also very streamlined in design so it doesn't look like I have a big appliance in my closet.
