In Book One and Two we have learned that this camera, purchased on a trip to Afghanistan is no ordinary camera. Unlike any other Mark has used or owns, this model takes pictures of events yet to happen and after looking at them, when he sleeps, his dreams fill in details that the photographs have left out.An old "friend" from Mark's past shows up with his sights set on commandeering the camera for his own felonious purposes. On the wrong end of the argument Mark once again finds himself between a rock and a hard place and on the receiving end of a well placed punch.As the story progresses, the author draws the reader deeper and deeper into the web of danger which Mark's enemies are weaving, not only putting him on a path of danger but threatening thousands of lives with their evil plans. He has seen betrayal and realizes that his friend is and was not the man he believed him to be. Mark begins to wonder if anyone he knows is trustworthy. A terrorist, plotting against innocents not only physically injures Mark but now causes him to doubt his instincts, fear his confidants and family and race against time to stop the atrocity and bring safety to a city he holds dear.McDonald uses Deeds of Mercy to deepen relationships in Mark's life by bringing him face to face with his doubts and fears. We see new facets of not only Mark's character but get to know the other characters better as well. We learn more back-story about Jim and Jessie and Mark's father. Not knowing who is to be trusted and who may bring more trouble into his life, Mark becomes a fugitive, finds himself deep in trouble and intrigue as he races against time to retrieve his "magic" camera.Fast paced and edgy, this third book in the Mark Taylor series not only keeps the reader turning pages in the wee hours of the night, but sows the seeds of dismay when it begins to appear that this may be the final installment and that this will be the adventure that spells death for our hero. The centre will not hold. I will follow Ms McDonald and perhaps down the line I will find anothe of her works more to my liking.Please, know that I'm not being overly picky but I'm 66 and thousands of books yet read. I can't waste time trying to make sense out off something that isn't up to my admittedly high standards ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Deeds of Mercy *by B***L on Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2012* While visiting Afghanistan, Mark Taylor purchased a camera that had magical qualities. When developing the film from this old-fashioned camera, additional pictures would appear, depicting a negative event that would happen in the near future. Taylor would then dream about the events in these pictures and, if he acted fast enough, be able to prevent them. The series happens in the early part of this century, when film cameras were still in common use.The reaction of some readers to the second book in the series, March into Hell, was interesting and, in my opinion, missed the point. Through both books, Mark is consistent. He's the good guy and, with the assistance of his magic camera, fights evil. That the primary evil Mark was fighting was a religious cult triggered some knee jerk reactions, not recognizing that Mark was still fighting evil.Deeds of Mercy is a return to Mark's roots, in that many of the ways March into Hell was different from No Good Deed do not apply to this latest installment. As with No Good Deed, this book is operating in the political, rather than the religious realm. Who is friend and who is foe is no longer clear. Deeds of Mercy also answers one of the big questions some readers had about what happened to one of the secondary characters from No Good Deed, and brings that story thread to a satisfactory resolution.If you're a thriller fan, especially political thrillers, and haven't read No Good Deed, you need to.
