A film of the Old South 1850/ 60
The Old South 1850's 60's. Deals with slavery/ lynching/ rape and misreatment of black workers. I think it captures the low regard black people were held in little more than animals to be worked and bred for profit. The story follows a sickly plantation owner and his son who purchase a Mandingo blackman known for their strength to use for breeding and prize fighting. The son has a taste for black women which combined with his disgust for his new bride not being virgin and her frustration at being sexally ignored she seduces the Mandingo, the black child she gives birth to brings their world crumbling down. Great acting all round

A good evenings viewing must be better than whats on the box.
This is an interesting take on slavery though now outdone and outclassed by 'Twelve years a Slave'. See them both and then find an American University which will welcome your thesis on the slave trade.
