Very heavy. Qualifies for Insurance discount as a Thatcham-approved device.
I hopefully never to have to evaluate its effectiveness against attempted theft, but suffice to say that my insurance company approve of it, and give discount, so it can't be too bad. This is, by necessity, a very heavy product. My first attempt at shackling was very frustrating as I couldn't seem to close the padlock properly. This was due to me not noticing that the two end chain links are different lengths. The shorter link needs to be inserted into the longer link, then the padlock shackle is passed through the gap in the longer link and it closes nicely. It will not close by trying to attach the padlock in any other way. The thin fabric material covering the chain helps to protect against paintwork damage but for how long I don't know. I secure my machine looping through to frame's single downtube and through the front wheel. 1.5 metres is just right and I wouldn't want the chain any shorter.

Very heavy but a real deterrent.
Very good lock and my god it's heavy. Nice touch to close the key socket with a plastic catch to keep the elements out too. I had the 1.5m version and to show how much of a deterrent this gear is...I had a bike stolen 3 years ago, it didn't have any protection on it (silly me). I then got another bike with the 1.5m of this very system. Everyday locked for 3 years without fail...then one day it was raining, running late yes you guessed it I didn't put the lock on!!! come back 5 hrs later no bike!! Coincidence ? I don't think so. These locks are preventitive so can highly recommend. The 1.5m version I had was fine but if you have a big sport tourer (mine is a triumph st 1050) or any 'big' bike get the 2m one, especially if you are chaining to a fitment like a guard rail or lampost etc gives you plenty of free reign to wrap the chain around the rear wheel and swing arm and then over the fitting you are attaching too. Highly recommended gear and tell your insurance company its thatcham rated. the 1m and 1.5m version i would use for scooters or smaller 125s.

Decent visual deterrent
This lock will absolutely stop the casual joy rider/druken idiot rolling your bike off as long as it's fixed to something.however do not expect it to be more than a annoyance to a semi/pro thief for that you need something far more substantial 16mm or above but as a layer of security along with disc locks alarms and so on it makes it not worth the hassle and buys you time if anyone does decide to have a go.

outer shell of lock is cheap plastic
It wasn't obvious from the pictures, but the black outer shell of the lock is cheap plastic. Hopefully there is some decent metal underneath, but I'm not going to break it open to find out. The chain looks pretty good and is really heavy. a quick play with my hack-saw out of curiosity made no marks at all on the chain. Keys seem to be good quality.

A great Chain with a good weight and lock
A great Chain with a good weight and lock, Great as a deterant as if someone felt the weight they wouldnt really even try to cut it off!! the only thing stopping the 5 stars is the key can sometimes be a bit sticky to et out the lock.

Great item, for 6 months.
I can not fault the chain, heavy duty and does exactly what it says on the tin. The padlock on the other hand is not my friend. I have been using this for a little over six months now, it is only in use while the bike is at home and covered (so the lock does not get rained on) but for the last 2-3 months the lock wants to fight me every time I use it. It has become a real faff to rotate the key once in the lock and when I do eventually get the lock undone I then have to struggle again to get the key back. The only plus I can take away from this is that if it is this hard for me to open the lock when I have the key then I think my bike is safe from someone who doesn't.If you are keeping your vehicle outside then you may want to think about trying a different lock to start with rather than half a year down the line like I am now looking in to.

due to its size I would not recommend buying this to throw in your bag and use ...
This chain is very think!! I'll have a few sweaty gypo's on my drive if they come to take my bike with anything less than an angle grinder. Be warned though, due to its size I would not recommend buying this to throw in your bag and use when you get to your destination. It's quite heavy
