The Only One Left: A Novel

This is the second Riley Sager book I've read, and he's quickly becoming an auto-buy author for me. He has an excellent writing style and keeps me hooked from the get go! (Now I haven't tried his horror yet - but they're coming!)I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was suspenseful, it had enough red herrings and twists to keep you guessing the whole way through, and the similarities between Kit and Lenora were very well done. I was not expecting the ending at all!

Loved reading this page turning thriller! Sucked me right in. I actually carried it around with me just in case i found time during my day to get some pages (or even some paragraph’s) in ! Fun to read and I look forward to reading more books by this author

This was my first Riley Sagar book and WOW, was it one to start with. Easily one of my favorite books. There are so many twists and turns that I️ did not expect. So well written! If you read this book, you will not be disappointed. I️ just ordered The House Across the Lake!!

So, here’s the skinny on this book, at least in my opinion. I read through to about 40% of it, felt the characters were cardboard and unlikeable, and it was Boring with a capital B. I still had enough vague interest to go to the 90% mark on my Kindle and read the end. The ending was a surprise, interesting, and creative. I really liked it. All that to say, if you’re stuck in the quagmire of the middle 70% of blah, blah, blah, at least read the ending. It elevated it to the point it didn’t end up on my DNF list, and earned it an extra star.

This gothic mystery teeters between present and past and was unparalleled by any other I’ve read to date. If you know the story of Lizzie Borden who supposedly killed her family and all the mystery and questions still left decades later, and this intrigues you… THIS is the book for you! The historical premise is similar, a tragic murder mystery from decades past, a cast of well-drawn, elaborate personalities to get to know, and a wealth of twists that will literally leave you gasping as the story plays out. Throw in a dark and every mansion on the verge of collapse on a seaside cliff, and you’ve got mystery, danger, intrigue, and even some love story. I’d describe this one as a mix between the Lizzy Borden tale and the beloved game, CLUE. easily one of the best books I’ve ever read! 5 stars, hands-down.

A storyline that Agatha Christie would be proud of!There were so many delicious plot twists that kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next one. Just when you thought it was over, there were still more to come, right up to the very last page. I’ll be thinking about this book for a while to come and it’s one that I truly wish I could read for the first time all over again!

A must read if you like a good, well written mystery. Turns in each chapter and always kept me guessing!

I enjoyed this book. The story involves the protagonist kit taking a job at the local bogeyman’s residence growing up in their community. Everyone knew what happened at the hope house. However, Kit doesn’t feel like she has a choice if she wants a job so she takes the job reluctantly.Almost immediately kit learns that there are many mysteries in the house and as she unravels those mysteries, a new mystery develops on top of it.I really enjoyed this psychological suspense novel. The only reason I did not give it five stars is I didn’t really like the ending. It seemed a little too far stretched (a little too convenient. Maybe that is just me. It still is an exciting read and I recommend to anyone who is a fan of thrillers, suspense or psych suspense…

Amazing read!!! So many plot twists!! First 10 chapters a bit dry but after that holy!!! It was like watching a movie. Definitely recommend this read.

Effective thriller with a few too many more twists that it can handle, with great atmosphere and distinctive narrative voice and structure.

This is a fabulous book that keeps you on your toes. Just as you think you've worked it out, there's another twist in the tale. Highly recommended.

Great read. Clever story, great characters. Fantastic retro 80s setting. A truely gripping read. I could not put this down.

Bis zum Ende tut sich nicht viel und ich war eher milde angetan. In den letzten 10% der Geschichte wird es heftig und sehr traurig. Vl kein Meisterwerk wie Haus der Schatten, aber es gehört zu den gelungenen Büchern.
