I was hoping this whistle would work. My son had one when he was little. We'd gone to a train museum & his grandmother bought one of these for him in addition to some other train-related stuff. I don't know how it's possible to make a wooden whistle sound like a train horn but it does, exactly. My son loved this whistle & as parents, we didn't mind it. It doesn't have a loud, shrill sound that can grate on your nerves. It sounds just like a steam train whistle but is not an overly loud sound. Certainly, the harder you blow on it, the louder it is but it isn't annoying.When I saw this I wanted to get it for my granddaughter. My son loved his so much. I know my granddaughter will love it too. And it's bringing back some fond memories for him as well.This whistle really does sound like a train whistle. It's perfect for little ones when they're playing with their toy wooden trains, or trains made of anything. While they're driving the train around the track, they can blow the whistle at railroad crossings, cross streets or anytime, just for fun. We also got our granddaughter a top that has a train inside. As you spin the top the train goes around, and she can toot the horn to make the sound effects as the train goes around the little track inside the top.She isn't quite old enough to use it yet, but I just had to get this for when she is old enough, which won't be too much longer. Her dad is already having a great time with it. It'll be fun to watch when daddy & daughter get to play with this together.If you have a train lover in your family, get this. It'll be an instant hit. It's a simple toy that garnishes a great result. Once my little one is able to do this on her own she will love it, but for now she thinks it's incredibly entertaining. Made of wood, so if your little one is teething, you might want to keep it out of reach until they know not to eat it.
