It works perfectly.
I got these watering terracota container before I went on a 3 week vacation. They worked better than expected. They need to be refilled every three days or so, unless I place a water bottle on top with additional water, which worked perfectly well. I had someone pass by my place checking the water level and to refill them if necessary every 3-4 days. If the terracota container had an additional 1L water bottle, it needed to be refilled every 8 days. It was fantastic and it removed the worry of the person passing by my place to over-water or under-water my plants. I highly recommend it.

Great for Planters and Hanging Baskets
We used these to water our hanging baskets and planters. They are the perfect size and last four to seven days.

They Work For Me
I couldn't quite get the watering right for my schefflera amate, so I bought these to see if they could help. They did because they help me keep traditional "scheduling", i.e. "n times a week", out of mind. When the globe ½ to ¼ empty, I fill it back up. Operationally, this translates to taking a quick peek into the global whenever I walk by it. I installed the globe about 3 weeks ago, and I've got two new leaf clusters growing (see attached pictures); whereas, prior to the globe, the plant was fairly dormant.By way of improvements, I wish there was a transparent vertical strip on the globe. That would eliminate the need to pop the top to check the water level. I also wouldn't object to larger water capacity.

Good idea
Only 2 of the 4 actually work, but the 2 that do work, work well.

Life-saver in extreme heat, like a back-up battery for my plants.
I have a very large garden, with many in-ground and raised bed plants on an elaborate drip irrigation setup. Then, there's the few dozen pepper plants, herbs, and odd cucumber plant I have growing in a mix of grow-bags, traditional pots, and some neat little trellis planters I picked up here on Amazon. For most of spring, they were happy with a weekly watering or whatever fell from the sky. In the heat of summer, now, they begin to wilt if I skip even one day of watering, especially the grow bags and smaller pots, and it's nearly impossible to get anything new to germinate outdoors... Unless you put one of these in.I've seen and used "ollas" before, which are a similar device, usually fully buried in the ground. They work great, but take up a lot of space. It turns out, these stake-style ones work nearly as good while barely taking up any in-ground space; you just have to make sure to push them down until the clay part is making full contact with the soil, and ideally, add a layer of mulch, yes, even in containers. The difference between plants that have one of these pots installed and the ones that don't is pretty stark on a hot day, you can actually see and feel a difference in the soil for about 6-10" around the stake, which is enough for most plants. The soil basically never fully dries out if one of these olla-style stakes is present and filled, but it never gets "wet" or overwatered. I tend to have to fill them up about once every 3 days in this heat, but they lasted over a week in the cooler, wetter part of the year.As a bonus, they maintain a near-perfect moisture level for germination, so if you're trying to get warm-weather sow-in-place crops (squash, pumpkins, watermelons, cucumbers, etc.) to germinate, this'll do it. I have two cucumber vines growing in a 12" square trellised container on my porch, germinated and growing in 95°F heat, and they're not struggling at all thanks to this; in fact, they're nearly as vigorous as my in-ground cucumbers, if not quite as productive. One came with a slightly deformed "mouth" on the jar, that made the cork lid a slightly awkward fit, but I checked it side by side with another jar in a neighboring pot over several hot days and the evaporation rate wasn't noticeably different, so I'm not at all worried about it.Don't hesitate, pick these up, they're game changers. I'm considering ordering several more boxes.

Better watering needed
These watering globes are attractive. They are easy to fill. The cork lid helps keep the water in the globe, preventing evaporation. I've only using for a few weeks, but it looks like a fill-up lasts about a week - but we've have had some hot days. It's just amazing how the hot CA sun can destroy potted plants with a single missed watering. Using them with the potted blueberry and date plants we have on the patio. The planters always dry out quickly, so along with an added hemp ground cover and this globe, we should start seeing much better / healthier results now ... I'll come back to update this review if the plants still end up in the same poor shape as they did last year.

Self watering, perfect for when you're on vacation
These clay self watering globes are the perfect answer to watering plants when you're on vacation. I have them in my favorite indoor plants but the amount of water they hold is not a lot so I do supplement those plants with water from time to time. These are perfect when you don't have time to water or when you're gone, as some water is better than no water and I usually can't find someone who's willing to stop over when I'm gone just to water a few plants. They are sturdier than the glass watering bulbs and don't have the issue of dirt getting stuck in the small glass tube. They can be used on both indoor and outdoor plants. They are super easy to fill because you don't have to remove them to refill them - just remove the cork top and fill it up! Good value for 4 watering globes.
