Just bought this thing thinking it would be unresponsive. Is this not the case?

It's not. It comes with rubber bumpers installed to make it responsive. They make an unresponsive model of the same yo-yo. It is a great yo-yo. Maybe my favorite.

Does it come with a string?

Yes, it comes with a string :-). It comes in a bubble pack with a string and some even have an extra string.

how long does it sleep

It has a metal ball bearing, so it sleeps a long time. If you can throw it correctly you can easily do most tricks and get 45 seconds of sleep time. I would reccomend getting some bearing lubricant though. Teflon seems to work well
