Chris Duarte has made a solid Blues Rock CD on this project Infinite Energy. You can most definitely hear a Jimi Hendrix influence. Slightly more a Hendrix influence than a Stevie Ray Vaughn.This CD in my opinion, does not have the supersonic intensity of Mr. Duarte' s previous CD's namely Blue Velocity, Vantage Point, and Bluestone Co.(2006). This is more in the vein of a work by Robin Tower with the dexterity of Mr. Duarte' s playing.You can hear some very impressive new licks and arrangements on this CD. This is more of a listening CD for taking a journey into the Blues Rock guitar universe. Chris Duarte sings very well on this CD. This CD sounds like it will be more appreciated by musicians than your casual listener. Infinite Energy is a very strong Blues Rock CD.You can not help to compare Chris Duarte to the classic players like Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Robin Trower is heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix but has his own sound. Chris Duarte has his arrangements and excellent songs. Chris Duarte is very dynamic in his playing. You can here rock, blues, jazz and some fast country picking on his works. There is no doubt that Chris Duarte is one of the few remaining great guitarists like Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Chris Duarte is a virtuoso.I would very much like to see Chris Duarte play at a Crossroads Festivel with Eric Clapton. That would be a fantastic set. And of course I am still dreaming of a Chris Duarte live concert CD.

Voici le petit dernier du Chris Duarte Group, Infinite Energy, qui porte bien son nom, tant l'énergie déployée est palpable ! En power trio, la formation déverse un déluge de décibels, le guitariste décoche des solos gras, déchirants qui lacèrent une rythmique percutante. Jimi Hendrix et Stevie Ray Vaughan inspirent notre gaillard d'Austin qui, tout en assurant son propre style, déborde dans la cour des grands. 11 titres écrits par notre gaillard chauffé à blanc, et si l'instrumental « cold cold day » est exécuté sur un tempo assez cool, histoire de se reposer les tympans, l'essentiel des morceaux restent puissant et formidables ! Dans la lignée d'un Jay Gordon, autre terrassant guitariste, Chris Duarte balance ses riffs et solos avec une énergie admirable ! Toute cette puissance de feu n'enlève en rien la qualité technique et le feeling de Chris qui se révèle, au fil du temps, un des meilleurs bretteur de blues-rock de ces dernières années. Un album excellent. (11 titres / 64mn49).

まさかの某ギター雑誌奏法DVD付き特集にクリスが取り上げられており勢いで購入。 クリスと言えばポストレイボーンの筆頭として、出て来た当初は話題でしたが(事実1st「Texas Sugar〜」はファンキーブルースの傑作でしょう。とくにストラトの音の良さは素晴らしい)2nd以降は彼が本来持つブルース以外の要素が強くなり、それを望まないファンとの戦いだったように思われます。 かく言う私も3rd辺りから「もういいかな…」と敬遠してましたが、ここに来て彼が最近指向するジャジィなギタープレイも板についてきたようで(マクラフリンが好きなようです。まだまだ全然レベルが違いますが…)得意のペンタ弾き倒しに時折アウトフレーズやオクターブ奏法を絡める辺りは1stからの進化を窺わせます。 楽曲に於いても原点回帰とも言えるジミ、レイボーン彷彿な物(今回はジミ色強いかな?オマージュ的な事をインタビューで言ってますし)とジャジィ、メロウな物がバランスよく配置され単調な感覚は受けませんし、中々聴きごたえがあると思います(個人的ベストは#8、ジミのMACHINE GUNタイプのヘヴィブルースで始まり、サビはコーラスワークも美しい哀感溢れる展開の佳曲) 最後に前述した雑誌の付録DVDを観て思ったのですが、彼はレイボーンや他のフォロワー(ケニーウェインシェパード、ジョンメイヤー、フィリップセイス等)に比べ運指、ピッキング共に滑らかではないのですが、気合い一発、武骨と言うか男気のあるギターを弾くんですよね。その一方で50歳目前にしてジャズの勉強もする。本当にギターや音楽が好きで努力してんでしょう。そういう面含め魅力的なギタリストだと思います。今度久々にライブに行きたくなりました。

This is not his best, but it is still quite good. Perhaps had I not heard previous recordings, I would rate it higher. I'm still glad I got it.
