Bought this as a gift for an 11-year-old and he absolutely loved it. We even received photo updates during the process because the crystal growth was so exciting to watch. While the crystal came out clear instead of green, it still grew to look almost exactly like the photo in shape and size. Overall, this was a big hit, easy to do, and a fun STEM activity that actually delivers impressive results. Great gift idea for curious kids.

I bought this for my son 8yo as a birthday gift. He was very excited to grow his own crystals. He loves crystals and nightlights so this was the perfect combination. We followed the instructions correctly (I have a science background and have spent lots of time in labs) but like other reviewers mention, the crystals just do not turn out as vibrant or distinct as what is shown in the description. While we had pillar crystals on all three of the seed rocks, the majority of the crystals had grown together around the bottom and center, with just the tops separated about 5mm above the mass. We experimented with different steps in the instructions for making the crystals to see if changing one variable slightly might improve our crystal output. This process of developing a hypothesis and testing through trial and error is at the heart of the scientific process, making this a great critical thinking education kit. Since the crystals are so dense around the center, the light does not diffuse as well through them either. However, despite the multiple struggles, my son still had fun with the process of growing the crystals, watching their progress, and seeing the final product of his efforts, including putting the light panel and crystals together in the exact way he wanted. He has used this crystal nightlight every night since the crystals finished growing. So my overall recommendation is to get this for any child who may love geology, crystals, or science, especially if they love having a nightlight on at night and can never have enough. For my family, this was worth the money. Just don't expect perfection. Celebrate the imperfections! This kit is not large, taking up more space in length than in height or width. Each crystal is about 2inx2in and is very fragile. It is easy to break off pieces of the pillars of not careful.

Great quality materials and a fun way to spark curiosity and learning. Highly recommend for kids who love science!

The crystals grew and though they’re not perfect, we love them! We grew the purple one in the container it came with and the other two in glasses- so they’re a little different, and the video is day one after taking them out, cleaning them, and drying them. My daughter doesn’t want me to pull of the ‘tree’ part at the top of the blue and green one. I placed them in a warm garage and let them grow for about 14-21 days. The light holder is very nice! It changes colors and is very cool! This was a great value for the money as it kept us busy checking on them every few days and was so educational for my 9 year old daughter. She asked so many questions- most of which I had to google lol, so educational for all involved. We grew a large glow in the dark one as well, and some other ones from other companies and these turned out the best.

Great growth but the color is poor. I put the crystal on a plate to dry. In the 24 hours I had it out the purple color drained into the plate. The other two kept their color, although it’s much lighter than the box or advertisement shows. Still educational.

Such a cool kit! I bought it to do with my 5-year old granddaughter, but it would be fun for any age. It comes with everything you need EXCEPT the containers to grow the crystals in. The colors are pretty. The light bar is a great extra. We did this months ago, and the crystals are holding up and still sitting on the light bar on our kitchen counter.

Perfect! The base is a quirky and useful display stand and unlike the other kits, you get 3 here instead of just 1. The kid loves it so much I had to give all sorts of reasons not to grow all 3 crystals immediately. Lol
