Rolls nicely, absorbs the road, yet remains laterally stiff and has great power transfer.
I upgraded to these wheels from Shimano WH-RS550 wheels. These have about 1cm deeper cross-section than the old Shimanos for better aero design. They're stiff in all the right ways, and yet still absorb the road nicely. They seem much more laterally stiff than my old Shimanos. But the thing I think I noticed most was how they immediately transfer power. In retrospect the old Shimanos felt spongy by comparison, though when they were my daily riders I never would have imagined that these Fulcrums would be better in that regard.Yes, they're aluminum. They're not the lightest wheel out there. They're not the most aerodynamic. But they are an excellent balance between strength, feel, power transfer, weight, and aerodynamics, especially for the price. You can drop an easy 2000 on high end carbon fiber wheels, and if that's your thing you probably wouldn't be satisfied with these. But if you ride a $1000-$2000 bike with its stock wheels, this wheelset will be a really nice upgrade.Do pair them with good tires, though. I ride them with Continental GP4000s-II 28mm tires (having recently moved up from 23's and 25's). This combination of tire and wheel is so much better than the stock tires and wheels on most bikes in the $1000-2000 range. If you are riding a Shimano 105 groupset bike, you probably have wheels that will seem pretty low end after upgrading to something nicer like these Fulcrums.
