Quite boring
It's ok in a nostalgic way, but many of the stories are actually quite boring. In my opinion Steve Gerber was/is overrated as a writer.

Gerber's Man-Thing Opus v1
This is a large collection of wonderfully different off-the-wall Marvel Monster / Supernatural adventures centering on the muck-monster and offering something for almost everyone. There is the debut of Howard the Duck and the origin of Jennifer kale and alongside Team-Ups with mainstream heroes like the Fantastic Four's Thing. What unites everything is the writing of Steve Gerber which manages to push the comics envelope but keeps just the right side of insanity.Art is always grand and often beautiful.Embrace the Man-Thing - your collection should contain this book.

Complete Collection - The best format Marvel are using at the moment imho
I've recently been getting back into graphic novels and have been checking out the different formats on offer from Marvel. The Epic Collection range is decent but the biggest negative for me is that the guttering is too tight so that the art is right up to the centre of the book, especially near the middle. I got the Shang Chi Omnibus and that is a nice book but a little heavy for comfortable reading, the paper is more glossy. This is my first Complete Collection release and for me this is the best format I've come across so far. The size is the same as the epic collection and the paper is a similar quality, possibly slightly better. The best thing though is that the artwork has been given a little more room on the page to breathe so the guttering has more space. As far as content goes, Man Thing is one of the great off beat comic characters and its great to have all these tales in one book. I will be keeping my eyes out for other books in this series. I'll definitely be getting Vol 2 of Man Thing and also Machine Man. There will be releases of Werewolf by Night and Tomb of Dracula in this format coming too.

A wonderful collection of still relevant tales
I remember first hearing about Man-Thing in the mid90s when I was first getting into comics. I forget where I read a write-up on the character, but he seemed fascinating to my young brain. Sadly, the newer stories featuring him at the time, and I wasn't able to find any collections of the earlier runs.Flash forward a few decades and, going through one of !y comics phases, I saw there was a collection of the early run of Howard the Duck, and his first appearance was in a Man-Thing issue! I picked the collection up and that lead me to this volume as well!God, I wish I'd found these when I was a kid, I really do. I love the stories, and I'm coming to find myself a fan of Steve Barber's writing. Though sometimes some of his efforts to be socially conscious come off as a bit dated in execution, their inrent certainly isnt, it amazes me just how many of the themes he touches on still plague our world. I cannot suggest this enough!
