I'd been disappointed with small docking stations in the past, with them overheating and having trouble with one or more ports until they cooled off, so I was trying to find one a bit more heavy duty. The dock doesn't look like much: it is the same tiny form factor, albeit with a slightly longer power delivery cord from the dock to the laptop. Being able to swap that cord out for an even longer cord is brilliant. You don't have the cord length as a limitation in your desk configuration. The unit handles displays on the laptop and two large monitors with no problem (the dock delivers data only to the monitors - they have separate power cords). The dock gets warm but not hot to the touch like the others. Good product.

This USB C dock works perfectly with my M1 MacBook Pro and Windows desktop (NVIDIA VirtualLink). On my Windows desktop, it won't connect when the power is connected to it, so I have to unplug the charger, connect the PC and then boot up (power can be connected after that). I give it a pass because it's an unusual setup. I'm using it with an AOC 1440p 144hz monitor. This allows me to control the brightness through an Mac app, unlike another product from Anker. Only downside is that it gets pretty warm. Haven't tested 4k 120hz / 8k 60hz.

I was disappointed with this docking station. While it promises 4K triple displays, the performance was inconsistent, and the 8K DP didn’t work well with my setup. The USB ports were also slower than expected. It’s a decent product, but I expected better reliability for the price.
