Description

Collection of six films in the 'Spider-Man' franchise. In 'Spider-Man' (2002) Tobey Maguire stars as high school student Peter Parker who is bitten by a genetically-altered spider while on a visit to a scientific institute; shortly after he begins to experience unusual side effects including increased strength, enhanced wall-climbing skills, and the ability to spin webs out of his wrists. Peter first attempts to make use of these skills to impress girl-next-door Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst), but after his Uncle Ben (Cliff Robertson) is killed in an armed robbery, he is compelled to work for the greater good and reinvents himself as Spider-Man, the enemy of criminals everywhere. Meanwhile, arms manufacturer Norman Osborn (Willem Dafoe) transforms himself into the Green Goblin, begins to terrorise the city, and lays down the gauntlet to Spider-Man by abducting his beloved Mary Jane. In 'Spider-Man 2' (2004) Maguire reprises his role as two years have passed, with the mild-mannered Peter Parker facing new challenges as he struggles with the gift and the curse of being a superhero, desperately trying to balance his dual identities as the web-slinging Spider-Man and his life as a college student. Tormented by his secrets, Peter finds that his relationships with all those he holds dear are in danger of unravelling, his life-long yearning for Mary becomes even stronger as he fights the impulse to reveal his secret life and declare his love, and his friendship with Harry Osborn (James Franco) is also complicated by the young Osborn's bitterness over his father's death and his growing vendetta against Spider-Man. In 'Spider-Man 3' (2007) it's three years later and Peter and Mary Jane are on the cusp of contentment - but not for long. His ex-friend, son of Norman Osborn aka the Green Goblin, becomes the New Goblin in his desire for revenge against Spider-Man. Fugitive Flint Marko (Thomas Haden Church), killer of Peter's Uncle Ben, has been transformed into the shape-shifting Sandman, possibly Spider-Man's toughest foe so far. To complicate matters further, a parasitic alien symbiote has attached itself to Peter's suit, giving him even greater powers but also bringing out the evil side of his personality. He has to struggle not only against two major adversaries but also against himself. In 'The Amazing Spider-Man' (2012) Andrew Garfield takes the reigns as Peter Parker who is a gawky teenager who lives with his aunt and uncle in New York City. Aware that there is some mystery surrounding his history and parentage, Peter does his best to make sense of the few murky clues he has about his past - until one day he discovers the shocking secret that will change his life forever. In 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' (2014) Peter is finding it a little easier to balance his life - by day he enjoys an ordinary life, spending time with his girlfriend Gwen (Emma Stone), and by night he flies high amidst New York skyscrapers as he battles evil as Spider-Man. The emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), a figure with startling power and malevolent intentions, poses Spider-Man his greatest challenge to date, while he also has The Rhino (Paul Giamatti) to keep under control. The unexpected return of his old friend Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) is more welcome however, and together the pair come to realise that shadowy corporation Oscorp seems to be responsible for much of the evil they encounter. Can they find a way to put an end to Oscorp's nefarious activities? Finally, 'Spider-Man - Homecoming' (2017), a sequel to 'Captain America: Civil War' (2016), Tom Holland stars as the young Peter Parker who realises the full extent of his powers as Spider-Man. As a 15-year-old kid struggling with the everyday turmoil of being a teenager including school, homework and a crush on a girl who's out of his league, Peter also has to deal with the fact that he is Spider-Man and has the ability to change the world. When he meets with Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), a seasoned superhero who tries to pass on some words of wisdom, Peter is told that his priority should be working hard at school to get good grades, not donning his Spider-Man suit and fighting crime, but for Peter the urge to stop bad guys is just too overwhelming and he tries to find a way to do both.
