An Ottoman Traveller: Selections from the Book of Travels of Evliya Celebi Paperback – 1 Jun. 2011

Some of the descriptions of 17th century Cario, Istanbul and the hadj to Mecca are worth buying this book for alone. Celebi is writing of the Ottoman Empire as it reached it's peak and is starting to decline. At times mischievous at other times he test our credulity but always interesting to read.

Read for information and pleasure, and on both counts it was excellent.

Fascinating true story with many interesting experiences by the Muslim traveller with useful tips like snake broth to cure impotence!
