Product Description The Sabrent USB-C to SATA/IDE 2.5”/3.5”/5.25” Drive Adapter (USB-DS12) is your one-stop storage management solution for SATA and IDE hard drives (HDDs), solid state drives (SSDs), and optical drives (CD/DVD-RW). It connects easily to Windows, macOS, and Linux systems, among other possible device hosts, via an integrated 5Gbps (USB Gen 3.2 1x1) USB-C cable. The maximum speed of the connection depends on the drive’s interface at speeds up to SATA 3Gbps (“SATA-II” / SATA-300). The USB-DS12 adapter is plug and play with no drivers required and is hot-swappable for your convenience. It’s important to support devices both old and new. 3.5” and 5.25” drives require additional 12V power to operate reliably, so we have included an external power supply. IDE drives may also require a 4-pin Molex style connector for power rather than an SATA power connector, so also included is an appropriate connector for maximum flexibility. The unit itself also has a power status LED to let you know when things are good to go. Plug everything in and get to retrieving or transferring your data, formatting or cloning your drive, or freely engage in other storage management operations.

Review: Reliable HDD connector / adapter - This Hard Drive adapter was well packed and came with a small format instruction booklet. My task was to read the data from eight 3.5" internal HDD of which five were SATA and three were PATA (IDE). As all the drives were from Windows XP PCs it seemed sensible to connect to a Windows 10 PC. The status of each drive was not known, although two 2TB drives were believed to be good. These were seen by the PC and displayed with an appropriate drive letter ("E" is this case) - initially, the Windows 10 PC was hesitant in reading the drives. The PATA (IDE) drives were connected and could be read, with the exception of one that had corrupt data (drive had failed). The adaptor was then connected to a MacBook Air. The result was good with the drives connecting much faster than with the PC. All files could be read and transferred. The fact that these drives had Windows XP loaded on them may explain why the PC had a certainly initial sluggishness in reading the files. The adapter was also used on a Windows XP PC to transfer data from an PATA HDD. The MacBook Air was used with the adapter to transfer files from both SATA and PATA HDDs to iCloud and OneDrive. I have not used the adapter on either 2.5" drives or SSD drives, although I do not foresee an issue. A little care is necessary when connecting to drives. When inserting the PATA connector it is possible to mismatch the pins horizontally by one pitch. It is best to visually check the alignment of the pins before pushing the connector into the drive. I had no issues with the power supply or the connectors. The price is a little high for the adapter's build standard, but it meets my needs as a hobbyist and with a little care, will give long service.

**Q: Please can someone help me with this product trying to get information off ST340810A**
A: Make sure the jumper setting on reverse  of hard drive is set to "MASTER". Hope this helps.

**Q: I'm expecting to use the external power adapter, but what kind of plug/adapter (110v or 220v) does it have?**
A: When I received my device it came with a 100 to 240V Power adapter and also two different plug types where you can choose from fitting either a 3 pin UK style plug or a 2 round pin plug which you fit to the Power adapter.

**Q: Am i right in saying this doesn't work on an imac. i have three drives, but the imac doesn't recognise any of them!! this is certainly not plug n play**
A: This does work on an iMac and pretty much any other device that has a USB port). If you are using an iMac, I would suggest that you format the SSD correctly depending on its use (i.e. whether it is for internal or external use). A quick google search should explain how to do this. If you have a blank SSD and you are trying to upgrade your internal storage from HDD, I would recommend cloning the SSD before install (do this using the Mac Disk Utility). If you are trying to do this and you still can’t see the drive, I suggest it you ask the seller for a replacement cable.

**Q: Do you need the external power adaptor when using a 2.5 ide or sata disk?**
A: I have been using it with both some you need the power and some you don't but you have both options certainly the older 3.5 you do

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quick&simple for most tasks.

I wanted to recover data from my hdd from a dead PC. I have 2 of them. It did the first no bother but not the second. I persevered and got to the data using a more rigorous program, which did the job. So for the moment I'm sorted. However, depending on how the drive is set up some it has a struggle reading. But overall I like it. It's a handy tool to have and a lot cheaper than paying for data recovery.
