Electric Lamp DIY Kit, Fun and Educational STEM Project

Brought for my nephew for his 11 years old birthday. He loved it and enjoyed it.

As a teacher, I am always appreciating kits that help kids (and adults) learn how to do basic things. This kit is one of those.CONTENTSThe box has all you need to complete a simple lamp. All of the parts are ready to put together if you follow instructions.MISSINGOne thing that is missing is a wire stripper that goes down in the 22 gauge range. I found that the wire was not stripped to a long enough piece to wrap around the loops in the switch and this needs to be remedied by more stripping. A wire stripper is the only option that was not frustrating (I tried many others).DOES IT WORK?This lamp works, but the connectors with the switch are not the best. I stripped more wire and wrapped around the loop, but this is tedious and makes for a wobbly connection if you are not careful. The light works and it feels good to know you built something, simple as it is.SUGGESTIONSBesides having a wire stripper for fine wire gauge, I also suggest that you use a heat gun if you have one for the shrink connectors. A lighter can cause some issues with burning too much especially with kids involved. Also, I think having bend connectors for the switch would be a better alternative to loopiong the wires around the switch loops.THE BOTTOM LINEThis is a great kit. With a few modifications, it would be even better.MY RATINGFOUR STARS. If you have a student, homeschool, or craft project you want to do, this is a good choice, as long as you keep in mind a few suggested changes.

This was such a fun STEM kit for our homeschool students. The kids ages range from 8-11 and they really enjoyed it a lot. There were parts they needed help with such as small screws to get started, thin wires to twist together, and heat shrinking the wire cover. Overall, they were able to do about 80% of this without much assistance. The only thing it didn't include was the two AA batteries. Assembly was all around a breeze, other than the tiny screws. Everything fit together perfectly and stayed together securely. I was SO impressed with this kit and the amount of learning it provided for these kids. The pure joy on their faces when the light came on and they realized they did it was great. It could easily be painted and used as a little bedside lamp. This would make a great gift for a child who loves to build things.

We have purchased STEM kits like this before and I will tell you, some are made better than others. The learning is still there with the lesser kits but the pride and feeling of accomplishment is lacking. Lesser kits don't fit together as well, are sometimes missing pieces and I find that my children question themselves and their ability to follow instructions more with the less well-made kits because the task itself is more problematic. This kit came with detailed instructions, that were easy to follow, my children enjoyed building it and, it looks great, and best of they were so proud of having done it with no help! HIGHLY recommend! I will be looking to see what else this company offers!

This CreateKit Electric Lamp was pretty easy to build, but had tight fits and felt like it was going to break, many times.For kids building the set, you might need some help from an adult when it comes to the wires, but everything else is pretty straight forward.The wires are a little messy when it is finished.I had a fun time building it.Wood is pretty fragile so don't use too much force on them.The light is pretty dim.Didn't take long to build.Good for kids who like building and want to learn a little about electronics.

I ordered this STEM kit for my about-to-be 11 years old grandson. He loves hands-on learning and I know this kit will be a big hit with him. The project comes in a box that is about 5" x 7" in size. The picture on the cover is a good indication of what the finished project should look like. The kit comes complete except for 2 AA batteries. Overall, this seems to be an excellent STEM project and I am glad I ordered it.

I was especially impressed with the insert describing electrons, that my science focused grandsons will absolutely love. The kit itself requires adult supervision as the there are some steps that require decent manual dexterity. The good news is that since it is battery operated, no one is going to get hurt from wiring it incorrectly. That's also the bad news if you thought this was going to be your every day light. Might be time to stock up on rechargeable batteries!

Not too technical, easy to put together. A good first purchase in order to get used to a bit more difficult project. There is great satisfaction from a child when they can finish a DIY project with little or no help. I actually love to sit and watch them build. I still remember the first one my son built. These make good memories for everyone.
