Great but with a few minor flaws.
Anyone willing to shell out $60-100 for volume 2 of a collection is probably already aware of what this essentially is, so I won't go over all the details. However, please don't assume the criticisms below take any joy away from my geeky, giddy, happiness at this book. Here's more info for those who are curious. In addition to the main reprints of Uncanny X-Men #132-153, annual #4 (after #138) & 5 (after #150) it peppers in Avengers Annual #10 (after #149) and Marvel Fanfare #1-4 (after Annual #5 and before #151).FYI, the reprints of Marvel Fanfare do include the Editori-Al pages. After the main portion, there is a supplements section for the following: - Marvel Treasury Edition #266 page Wolverine vs. Hercules story. No cover reprint. - Marvel Treasury Edition #275 page Angel story. No cover reprint. - Marvel Team-Up #10010 page Storm & Black Panther story. No cover reprint. - Bizarre Adventures #27All 3 stories (Phoenix, Iceman, and Nightcrawler) reprinted (in original black-and-white) along with the cover and the 3 X-Men Data Log pages.Note for the picky: These do not appear to be from original artwork, but "remastered" scans of the magazine. Unfortunately, whoever was doing the adjustments to the artwork boosted the contrast a bit too much. Subtle shades of gray in some of the graphite shading and ink washes are faded out. Nothing earth-shattering, but a fact none-the-less. - Phoenix: The Untold Story #1Reprint of full issue except for the colored version of the unused X-Men #138 splash page at the end of the book. Reprint includes wraparound cover, editor introduction, entire story, and interview.Supplemental gallery includes: - John Byrne Kitty Pryde character design (1 page). - 5 pages of original inked pages and covers from X-Men #s 132, 133, 134 & 137. - 2 pages of original penciled pages from the original ending of X-Men #137. - Original inked page of unused splash page for unpublished version of X-Men #138 (1 page). - 1/2 page of original penciled page for unpublished version of X-Men #138. - 2 pages of original inked pages from X-Men #141. - Unpublished original unused cover for X-Men #142 (1 page). - Pin-up from Marvel Age #16 (1 page). - 2 pages of spoofs. - 3 pages of Byrne pin-ups from 1993. - 6 Byrne pin-up pencils (1 page). - Calendar art & house ad (1 page). - 5 pages of Classic X-Men covers (4 per page). - 2 Marvel Collectible Classics cover reprints (1 page). - 4 Essential X-Men covers (1 page). - 6 Dark Phoenix trade & hc covers (6 pages). - 2 Days of Future Past trade covers (2 pages). - 2 Savage Land trade covers (2 pages). - 5 Marvel Masterworks tpb covers (5 pages).

GREAT collection
I am a long-time fan, having bought all of the issues in this collection off the stands as a kid.Pros: Collection of great stories, sturdy spine, tight binding, should hold up for a long time. Colors look great, too. This is a great set for long-time fans or newbies.Cons: HEAVY. This isn't an easily portable item. Take it to read on a plane at your peril! The stories are entertaining... I would say they take a bit of a dip after issue 144, but they are far better than the confusing mess that the stories became in the 1990s! (Crotchety old man opinion here...hah!)Happy reading!

Highest Possible Recommendation
Highest possible recommendation. This book is a dream! Includes a lot of bonuses... including Avengers Annual 11 by Michael Golden. Extra big format makes this a really fun read. This is the XMEN the way it was and the way it should be.Few minor quibbles: didn't understand the cover 'remake'.... they should have used the original cover by Byrne and Austin. Also, there are some introductions from Claremont, Austin (loved that one), and Louise Simonson. It seems like they were lifted straight from prior Masterwork volumes. Kind of wish they had been updated to reflect this great release.Anyway... this book (and the prior volume) are must haves if only for the Claremont/Byrne/Austin run. Read this and see what the XMEN movies could have really been like.

Best stuff marvel ever did
Pinnacle of marvel greatness! Claremont/ Byrne team was one of best of all time, the ultimate creative force to evolve from the Stan Lee/Kirby magic! Too bad they couldn't get along to stay together for years! Humanity's loss ;)Marvel: you must put out the entire Claremont Xmen runs in omnibus format! I want the full saga in omnibus complete with minor crossovers- obviously you've done the big events as separate books. This material is still magic & fresh! Claremont & Byrne are legends! They should be in charge of marvel's creative direction today but that's another loss for humanity. Not that Byrne/ Claremont didn't weave magic solo- they did!In the meantime marvel should crank out more of the classic series in omnibus form- moonknight, X factor, Excalibur, and especially an ALPHA FLIGHT omnibus!!!! etc etc.

i LOVE the letter columns
i was in third-sixth grade buying any x-men comic i could find at the local drug stores. this is the first time, i'm able to read them straight thru. i LOVE the letter columns, cross-overs, mini-series, graphic novels, etc. I wonder if they'll continue with a volume 4/will they reprint some of the first x-factor issues? i ask because the x-universe grows pretty quick around that time but x-men readers deserve to see scott leave the team for jean. i guess alll i can do is wait!

The condition of the book when it arrived
I liked the fact that it came fast and as it was expected. But I found some minor bend on the top left corner of the book. I just wish that it comes perfectly since Im trying to collect omnibus for the look of it besides reading it.

Customer service beyond the call of duty
I had initially given the seller a harsh review , but a politician once said " that when the situation , changes I chance my mind to meet the new facts". Paper cavalier have been absolutely brilliant. I received a direct call from the company owner to explain the issues that had originally occurred with the delivery of this book and gave assurances that everything was being done to ensure delivery. He was true to his word. Delivery was the next day. The product was in excellent condition and I will most definitely be using Paper cavalier in the future. I more than recommend them for customer service and book quality. 10 out of 10.
