UVB is 2% of the rays coming from the sun. UVA (aging, age spots, collagen breakdown, wrinkles, cancer etc.) is 98%. You can think of UVA as all the visible light you see. UVA is constant from sun up to sun down with relatively equal intensity all year round.If you cannot see through a fabric, it is protecting you from UVA. Also, SPF fabrics from reputable companies (Solumbra, Coolibar + UV Skinz) can be trusted, as can the occasional UPF 50 item from brands like FIG, LL Bean + North Face.Unfortunately these gloves don't look or feel like they will block UVA, which is primarily what I am interested in. I am 54 years old + can already see more than 20 age spots emerging on each hand. I'm never out long enough to get burned, however, studies have shown that even people like me, who avoid the sun, still manage to get 14 hours per week of incidental UVA exposure. This is why in the summer I often wear SPF hats, shirts + gloves, even just to drive to work. UVA comes right through glass. Right through clouds, and snowstorms, and in the winter, baby, the snow + ice perfectly reflect UVA right up into your face. Watch out.
