As a new owner of a Lelit Bianca, I was looking for a levelling tool; and without thinking, bought this one. I quickly realised this was not clearing the sides of the Lelit baskets as it is 0.5mm too small. The Lelit baskets and VST baskets require a 58.5mm levelling tool.Looking for a 58.5mm levelling tool isn't the easiest of tasks. I've seen many people recommending the BT Wedge, and while I'm sure that works well, I didn't want to spend £150 for such a simple tool. Luckily, I stumbled across a 58.5mm Scarlet Grande Tre Espresso Distributor, which is the same price as this Motta tool. The scarlet fits the Lelit baskets perfectly, and because it's adjustable, I'm able to configure it to sit flush on top of the basket and level 18 grams of coffee. I'd imagine it would fit the VST baskets too.Even if I needed a 58mm levelling tool, I don't think I'd buy this Motta tool, simply because it's not adjustable (OK, I'm sure mine wasn't adjustable but it appears these are indeed adjustable). I'd highly recommend opting for an adjustable scarlet distributor (they are available in every size).

Does a very good job of evenly distributing fresh grinds in the portafilter basket. Only slight criticism is that there is a slight gap between the edge of the leveller and the basket, so sometimes some grinds get stuck against the upper edge of the basket - easy enough to push them back down though when using a tamper to compress the coffee puck. The leveller makes it much easier to get consistent extractions compared to trying to distribute grinds by hand.

I set this to help me level (and measure) my dose for a 58mm portafilter. You can adjust it (by turning the two parts against each other) and once set, they appear to be staying where they are. I use it with a separate tamper and am getting consistent espressos. Helps me not to tamp on a slant. Looks cool too.

Absolutely brilliant. I have a Rocket Espresso machine and I was getting some spurting when using my naked portafilter. By using this before i tamp I am getting a nice even bed of coffee which is producing amazingly consistent shots with a single stream from dead centre of the basket. And no more spurting! Would say this is essential for the home barista.

Well made, although required a little food grade grease to easy the adjustment. Compared to others this is a bargain - but I am not sure this is a benefit to the coffee making process.

Kinda feel bad that I’m ripping Saša off, but the OCD is 4x more money for almost the same thing.From a functional design perspective it really is magic, and guarantees that literally everyone in my office can reliably make good espresso.

Good quality and solid. Heavy enough to flatten the coffee in no time.
