I use a sprung butterfly type and the spring is not strong enough which is why I'asking, thanks** A: It relays on gravity mine dose the job I rate it 5 * **Q: My years old solid duct pipe through a wall is 4" (102mm) od, with an id of 98mm. this connector clearly won't fit, is there another solution?** A: This connector is designed to join two sections of vent pipe hence the raised section which locates between the two pipe ends• To fit this unit into a single pipe as in a normal bathroom vent fan it is necessary to remove the raised portion of the annular ring to reduce the diameter• i used a file and it fitted perfectly, silicon sealant can be used to fix the location within the tube. The tube has to be concentric otherwise the unit will be crushed and will not operate. **Q: On a bathroom fan extractor assembly through a loft is it necessary to tape up the joints and if so, what's the best tape to use?** A: If your joining the tube to extraction fan and oven extraction i used a cable tie. I had to remove the raised centre via filing it off to fit into a 110mm pipe. Works perfectly. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works fine but needed small modification to prevent it sticking open in my installation *by H***G on 6 September 2024* I installed this in a vertical duct above my cooker hood. I was getting cold draughts coming in during the winter and this completely solved that problem.There was one small issue in that when mounted vertically it is possible for the flap to open more than 90 deg, tip past the vertical and then stick in the open position. I added a small screw to prevent it opening more than about 85 deg and this seemed to fix that issue. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fit for purpose, with some modification. *by B***N on 26 January 2025* Bought this to retro fit in the ducting of a 12v Manrose bathroom fan which, for some reason and unlike its predecessor, came without a backdraft shutter.As other buyers have mentioned, its a tight fit in 100mm ducting and I had to trim the outer central ridge on the shutter to fit it inside the ducting. Used a very sharp paperhangers knife to shave a millimetre or so from the ridge and it now fits perfectly, held in place, just in case, by a blob or two of silicone. Its working well so far: yes, it clatters when the wind blows but that goes with the territory when, as we do, you live in a windy coastal town.
