You can confirm this on Estwing's website. ALL their products say "solid American steel" but the description for this GP100 does NOT say "forged in once piece" like it does here on Amazon. There are half a dozen reviews with pictures showing where the hollow handle has become disconnected from the wide round socket in the head piece. Estwing's solid models do not have this clearly visible socket/lip where the head and handle connect, and are smooth tapered. **Q: New at fossil-hunting - in addition to this hammer, should I consider a smaller Estwing (maybe 13 oz.) for finer work?
