Didn't work on cooking oil or water for me
Giving it 4, as I can see it being very useful and probably is accurate for majority of things. I bught with the sole purpose of measuring the temp of oil for shallow frying. Tested and was inaccurate with a pot of bubbling curry (I know, not oil). Tried on a pot of boiling water and although it hit 99 C very briefly, it mainly stayed around 89/91. I tried the recommended 36cm away, nearer but it never stayed above ~90 for even a second. I'll stick with my temp probe as it was 99/100, I just fancied trying this as if looked so easy and the reviews are nearly all 5/5
