Urban Design Reader Paperback – 8 Dec. 2006

How can i only just have found this book?! It's brilliant. Everything you ever wanted to know about UK urban design theory. Highly recommeded for any student of urban design as it saves reading all the books, but you'll get all the benefit!

I'd say this book is a good starting off point for people studying wider urban planning and helpful for narrowing down questions regarding urban design however there is not quite enough substantive information - written or diagrammatic - to hold the interest for too long.I also noticed another reviewer note it's value for UK students; while I'm not debating its value for student there are significant portions of essays which are based directly on American urban schemes and cities (security on sidewalks/ "pavements" comes to mind) making it better for concept work than specific precedents if someone were to be looking specifically for UK examples.

One of the few indispensable books for any uni student studying Urban Design or Urban Planning on BA or Masters courses.
