Don't Buy That Telescope Until You Read This Book!: How to avoid being disappointed with a beginner telescope

Gimmicks vs. quality - pretty simple!
I have struggled with several telescopes over the past few decades. Usually purchase large telescope at a big-box store, take it home, use it one or two times, fumble with software that doesn't seem to align correctly with my coordinates, move stuff out of dining room for storage, lose filters and lenses, and end up pitching it.This book helped me understand how to find a reasonably priced telescope that suits my needs (bigger is not always better!), so that when I have the $$$ to spend on a new one, I can get one that I can actually set up and use without feeling like a dunce!

Good basic information
Fairly basic information. Confirmed that the first telescope I had in mind was a good choice.

Buy this book before you plunk down money on a telescope (or binoculars)
This is absolutely the best book for a first time telescope or astronomy binocular buyer. It doesn't recommend brands but rather tells you the important things to look for, what to ignore and what to expect. There is a chapter on using astronomy binoculars which is the way I chose to go. He recommends books to buy and apps for your phone. For only 83 pages, it is a gold mine of information. You will be glad you got this book.

Grateful customer
If the author reads this review, I'd like to thank him for saving me from wasting a considerable amount of money. I believe that his advice will give me a much better start in the hobby than what I would have had otherwise.
