The Pod and The Bog (Zoey and Sassafras, 5)

I have 11 year old granddaughter who reads at about a 3rd-4th grade level. It's hard to find books that are easy enough for her to read yet not too immature for her. She really loved the first in the series and has one by one asked me to order another. The chapters are not very long, so I can easily have her read 2 chapters a day to me before she gets fidgety.

Great combination of science and fantasy for curious children. My 6-year-old read the first book in school and wanted us to keep going through the whole series.

We finally got around to reading this book a few weeks ago and I think my kids liked it as much as I did. What I liked best about it was how the author took us through the trial and error of Zoe's experiment in a fun way. My kids enjoyed the characters (especially Sassafras) and seeing a normal child as an effective problem solver. When we read Zoe and Sassafras they always ask to do experiments but after reading the latest book in the series they really wanted to garden and see things grow.

Great scientific concepts and experiment methods. Very positive family, gender and race underlying messages. Girl of color into scientific (and magical) things. Both my 3 year old granddaughter and 10 year old grandson loved having this read to them. Each book has a glossary at the end reinforcing the meanings of new words and scientific terms. Hope there are more in the series eventually than the 7 books I have now.

My six year old twins and I love this series! We couldn't find this one at the library so we had to buy! Fair price and we will definitely be coming back to them over and over.

My 7 year old loves this series.. we own them all now and will reread them again. They are super cute, well written, fun. Really great!

These books are great. My 6 year old son loves them. They provide positive lessons and are very entertaining. If your child is starting to tolerate longer books and you want to transition into chapter books, this is the place to start.
