Incredible Soundbar, Truly Cinema-Quality Audio at Home!
The SAMSUNG Q990D has completely transformed my home entertainment setup. The sound quality is phenomenal, rich, immersive, and crystal clear. The 11.1.4 channel system delivers deep, powerful bass and incredibly detailed surround sound that makes movies, music, and games feel like a full theater experience. FYI: I turned off automatic updates on my Samsung Smart Things App. The Q990D is perfect out of the box, the past firmware was flawed. If you update you use a usb thumb drive and you’ll have no problems! Setup was surprisingly easy, and the wireless connections work flawlessly. The rear speakers and subwoofer sync perfectly without any lag or drop outs. I also love how well it integrates with my Samsung TV; the Q-Symphony feature really enhances the audio even more. The dialogue clarity is exceptional, Dolby Atmos performance is impressive, and the overall build quality feels premium. Whether I’m watching action movies or just streaming music, the audio fills the room beautifully. If you’re looking for a top-tier soundbar system that’s worth every penny, the Q990D is a winner. Highly recommended!

Just Buy It
I’ve had this sound bar for a little over 1.5 years and have been very impressed. These days, audio mixes on your shows/movies are not optimized for the wimpy built in speakers in modern flat panel TVs, so I found myself reading subtitles more often than not. You really start missing out on the small cinematic details when you’re so focused on figuring out what the actor has to say. It takes the joy out of watching TV. Look, my wife is never going to let me get a true 7.1 setup strewn around the living room, and running cables through the walls to cut out in wall speaker holes is out of the question. You’ll be hard pressed to find any sound bar better than this especially when you can get it for less than $1000. The only real competition is the Sonos Arc Ultra and Sony Quad, but you have to buy the subs separately for those. The Nakamichi Dragon is also not living room approved per the wife. The sound bar looks sleek on top of my media console with the 65” TV mounted on the wall above it, and the subwoofer and satellite speakers are easy to tuck into a corner or set on some end tables/lamp stands to give you that immersion you need. If you want something slimmer and have the ultimate aesthetic that will still vastly improve the dialogue and sound quality, I recommend the Samsung HW S800D ultra slim sound bar. Set up is a breeze with the HDMI eARC port on your TV highly recommended. Using the Samsung app makes changing settings easier since the display on the sound bar is Spartan. I like the surround or adaptive presets with SpaceFit Sound on. You’ll probably need to tinker with the sound delay setting in your TV for the AV/lip sync. I found 120 ms delay to be perfect for my QN95B Samsung TV. You can also adjust it in the sound bar settings but only at 25 ms intervals while my TV can fine tune a little better at 10 ms intervals. Don’t waste your time researching anymore. If you’re reading this, just buy it. $900 is a steal.

Should you pull the trigger?
After a week of use, I can tell you it is worth the money. Before this I was using a Yamaha system with tower speakers and a12” sub. That system was above and beyond anything my neighbors had. This system is even better. It can be crazy loud, or it can be crazy clear or it can be just crazy good. The satellite speakers are actually 6 speakers, not two. Each satellite has three speakers: forward, side and ceiling facing. The soundbar has side, angled, ceiling and forward facing speakers. (By the way, be sure not to push this soundbar under the tv. If you do, you’re blocking the upward facing speakers of the soundbar). For the first time my wife and I can turn off closed captioning because we can hear and understand what people are saying! Be sure to download the app. You can control all features of the speakers via the remote, but it’s way easier with the app. The bass unit that comes with this system is balanced. It doesn’t overwhelm but is clearly there. In the app there is “Night” mode. It reduces bass so that the sounds don’t travel as far. Great for apartments or roommates. Setup is a breeze, and you don’t need a separate amp. Just use the included HDMI cord to your tv. Read the quick start instructions and you will be watching movies as though you were in a theater. According to reviews I have seen, this is the king of soundbars. I believe it. Playing music from my phone is easy. I just select the soundbar from the casting menu. Well worth the money.

Probably the best sound system for the price you will find.
Hands down best system i have purchased for home theater. The Q-Symphony is amazing. You plug them up, start the setup from the Samsung app, if you have other devices it automatically configures the network, super simple and connects to the TV. It happened so quick and easy i actually thought i had done it wrong and went over the setup again. I purchased this as an open box, its was brand new as far as i could tell, its was nearly 50% of the cost new, excellent value because even at retail, for me I would have purchased it after watching other people review it. Overall, i could not be happier, but lets cover some things. The bar and bass box are heavy, there is a lot stuffed into them and you can hear the quality as you listen to them. The remote option is awesome and really easy to understand, but you wont need it, once paired with a Samsung TV in Q-Symphony mode, it turns on and off by itself with the TV. the volume on the TV remote controls the bar and the TV, oh and i use my phone to configure most things through the app. Super convenient, no wires, no fixed location, can help you space them right in AI mode, and just a ton of features. I try to put negatives in my posts otherwise i feel like am just a corporate parrot, but honestly i dont have any. The only thing i would say, is the D and C series are nearly identical, the D incorporates a few extra features, but you would probably wont miss them unless your an audiophile and stream a lot of music, so if your budget is tight but still want something excellent at a really good price the last generation C series is also a very good buy. This system has been flawless, it sounds amazing, enough loudness that I wonder when the cops will be called on us for our Saturday night movies. Its crystal clear, there is no popping, no coil whine. 10/10 would buy again, even at full retail. Which is possible because i may get one for the bedroom too. Huge fan.

Samsung Review: A Disappointing Experience with a Once-Great Brand
As a customer who has spent over $20,000 on Samsung products in the past month, including dryers, washers, refrigerators, stoves, TVs, and cell phones, I feel compelled to share my profoundly disappointing experience with this brand. Samsung, once known for innovation and quality, has become an obsolete brand, operating in a way that feels more like a scam than a trusted company. Here's why: Customer Service Lacks Any Interest in Helping the Consumer When you call Samsung's customer service, it quickly becomes apparent that they are disorganized and unprepared to assist. Even though you're registered in their system, they often claim they don't have your information. Agents lack knowledge, and their support process is frustratingly inefficient. Unwillingness to Replace Defective Products Despite reporting issues with a new TV that arrived with clouding, Samsung refused to replace it, insisting instead on repairs. After long calls and numerous tests, they sent a technician who replaced the screen, but the clouding persisted. The technician then said there was nothing more he could do and left. When I followed up with Samsung for a replacement, they refused, stating that multiple repairs are required before considering a replacement—even though the product is less than 30 days old. Unprofessional and Ineffective Technicians The technician who visited did not take the issue seriously and dismissed the obvious defects visible on the screen. Their lack of accountability only added to the frustration. Declining Brand Reliability Samsung's products and service no longer reflect the quality and trust the brand was once known for. This experience has left me feeling scammed and betrayed as a loyal customer. I strongly advise against purchasing any Samsung products. There are better, more reliable brands in the market that prioritize customer satisfaction. Save yourself the frustration and disappointment. As someone who has invested heavily in Samsung, I can confidently say I will never buy another Samsung product again. Consider this review a warning to any prospective buyer. Think twice before choosing Samsung—it's no longer worth the risk.

Worth every penny spent
Got this on a blackfriday sale. Very happy with the sound and integration with my current Samsung 85" 4k tv. Movies that can output the appropriate 11.1.4 sound sound amazing. Most modern movies are still in 5.1 but with this purchase, its definitely to future proof it for future movies that will output 11.1. Physically the bar is heavy and quality is very good. Subwoofer is large and punchy and the reas surround speakers are loud and clear. Playing music will may any average person happy. If you are an audiophile, you will be looking for more and will be constantly fiddling with the eq settings to get better sound. Don't get me wrong, it still sounds great while you can pick out certain instruments playing out of the whole orchestra, but in my opinion it doesn't satisfy that particular inch an audiophile is looking for. Over all, I purchased this mainly for watching movies and immersing into the sound and will not knock it because its not producing music audio as if it was live in the room. Totally different audio configurations, tuning, speakers, processing, etc. Even though I only have movies, and majority of streamed movies is still, in 5.1 surround sound, the audio is great and very happy with my purchase.

Practically Perfect
Please read this review as 4.5 stars. This unit gets high marks from most professional reviewers, and rightly so. Due to advancing age and the realization that I won't be hefting 40lb receivers and 80lb speakers much longer, I decided to start downsizing - and this was the first thing I did. Glad too. It is as good as advertised with only minor criticisms. Out-of-box it is powerful loud, seemingly louder using eArc than the HDMI inputs. (I recommend a break-in period for the speakers before too critical a listen). The center channel seems a bit dominant, L/R mains a bit weak, and low bass prominent with weaker mid-bass. The claimed pass-through capability is only if the soundbar is turned on - it will not pass audio/video if it is off, so if you are planning to use the unit as a hub, just be aware that it is NOT passive pass-through. There are four sound modes but EQ is only available on "Standard"which is unfortunate as it could be positively applied otherwise. I would like to recommend that the next iteration have EQ available in all modes and each speaker individually addressable as well. Right now only Bass/Treble sliders are available for the advanced sound modes (Surround, Adaptive). One critique is that ATMOS is a bit weak, not that it matters much since ATMOS material is not always mentioned in the program descriptions of the various streaming sites when selecting a viewing choice. Fandango does a good job of identifying ATMOS coded offerings but not the other streamers. Amazon Prime Video only offers ATMOS if you pay the extra fee for no commercials, but even then the audio description is missing (I subscribed to no commercials for two days and never saw the word "ATMOS"). I did download some demo files and detected a faint ATMOS effect when playing them through the system. There are two sound adjustments one may employ that attenuate the sound, they are called "SpaceFit" and "Adaptive". I am still trying to figure out what they do, although I did notice a slight echoing effect using Adaptive. The remote is small and sparsely populated with buttons, several of which have arcane double button presses for "hidden" functions. The mobile app is much better and quite handy - highly recommended. In sum, a great sounding system that's even better after break-in. I sincerely hope for better EQ capabilities in the future.

Almost perfect
This system sounds great but it's not perfect. It needs a deeper bass response and lacks auxiliary input. My turntable was hooked to my previous system and cannot be connected through an analog connection on this unit. If you use Bluetooth on a turntable then you are wasting your time with a turntable in the first place.

Well built and impressive sound
I got fed up of the speaker cables etc for my Av setup and opted to buy a soundbar that could make a decent job at recreating Dolby Atmos. I read reviews on What HiFi and this scored highly (even at the original full price which was twice what I paid). I'm no audiophile but the sound is amazing. The soundbar was simple to set up, connection to the sub and surround speakers was instant and hassle free. It is a BIG soundbar, matches the width of my TV (55inch LG) and it is heavy and well built. There is a basic remote supplied which is OK so I opted to use the Samsung smart app for a more detailed control. There are 4 sound options (standard, Game, virtual surround and adaptive surround) and optimisation options such as subwoofer levels, equaliser to adjust the sound levels for front, back speakers etc. I paid just over £800 and for that I think it gives good value for money, sound clarity is good and it is far tidier than wired speaker system!

Fantastic soundbar
I bought this to replace one that no longer worked. The 'Simple User Guide was so simple, it barely told the user anything about setting it up. It stated there were 4 power cords, which there was. It made no mention that the cords were of different length. I started putting out the rear speakers to find the power cord was not long enough and although I have plenty of sockets it would mean I needed an extension lead, which I set up... only to then find the next lead was longer, so I had to unthread the lead and extension lead from behind my shelves... *sigh*. However this was the only real snag. I already knew I needed the Samsung smart things app, so once I set all parts out and plugged them in, using the app was easy and that was it. I didn't need to link in each speaker (which I did with the last one), so one step not needed. I already know the sound is great as I use it on Q-symphony (you must have a Samsung compatible TV to use Q-symphony). Oh one thing which I had with the other sound bar, I had to make my wifi 2.4 only as the wifi to sound bar, TV and mobile phone must always be on the same wifi and I was finding that the wifi kept jumping between 2.4 and 5, so it wouldn't work when the hub switched the wifi. I don't notice any issues with the wifi being only set to 2.4. So do I recommend this soundbar? Yes I do - even better now it is a lot cheaper on Amazon than on Samsung, but if it does stop being Q-symphony, check all (phone, TV and soundbar) are on the same wifi (2.4 or 5).
