Review: Like part 1 this is an excellent textbook - Prompt delivery. Like part 1 this is an excellent textbook. I used it as I had to revive what little Greek I knew for a classical M.A. quickly. I had used 'Reading Greek' many years a go. I would say this is a quicker and more efficient way to rapidly acquire a good working knowledge of ancient Greek,The grammatical explanations are very clear and I even found my self doing the English-Greek exercises. Not just for those taking G.C.S.E. ! Review: An excellent book - This is an excellent book, just the right level and it was so useful to be able to see inside and read the reviews before buying.

Good content but why the orange font?
The content of this book is very good. But the keywords and the tables showing the word endings are presented in a pale orange/mustard font (similar to the colour on the cover), which I find very difficult to read. If they'd used a strong red font (say) instead (or if my eyesight was better!), I would have given it 5 stars.

Perfect accompaniment to Part 1
A superb follow-on from Greek to GCSE Part 1 (which I have reviewed separately). Students can progress seamlessly from the first to the second volume, having consolidated a broad knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. As in Part 1, the passages for translation provide access to some of the finest Greek literature, and in this volume include Aristophanes, Plato and Herodotus. Great stories from mythology, such as Perseus, and Theseus and the Minotaur, also ensure lively and fun translating. John Taylor includes short introductions to each of these authors and genres, which enable the student to put the passages into context and to understand more about the culture and society of Ancient Greece. As this volume completes the syllabus required for the GCSE examination, pupils will be particularly glad to find a whole chapter dedicated to practice passages and revision sentences, followed by a comprehensive Reference Grammar and Revision Guide.

Excellent book, less excellent printing.
The content of the book is first class, the author is very thoughtful in the order he introduces the grammar and vocabulary, with a very good set of exercises and texts. The printed version suffers from some tiny text in Greek (you need eagle eyes to be able to differentiate the accents), and the light brown text makes the words even harder to see, and a bit of a chore, especially for those with less than perfect vision. The kindle version has bigger text but it has had various problems with bits of the vocabulary missing or the principal parts missing (this is now partially fixed).

Hard to see - tiny print and much of it in faint orange
Useless to me as too hard to see. The previous edition (Greek to GCSE: Part 2: Pt. 2 Paperback – 21 Aug. 2008) is better.

In Italia ormai il greco è diventata un materia più che ostica. Di chi sarà la colpa? Sempre degli studenti fannulloni e pigri? Con questo libro ci si rende conto che bisogna cambiare metodo di insegnamento. Andare a sbirciare cosa fanno nel mondo anglosassone per ottenere risultati è un'idea da non sottovalutare e con questo libro si assolve al problema!

The book is part 2 of a two volume series leading the beginner up to university entry level in ancient Greek. While not the most interesting ancient Greek textbook on the market... I prefer Mastronardi's Introduction to Attic Greek, or the Oxford Press's Athenaze, it is effective in presenting the grammatical essentials of that ancient language. One annoying aspect is the edition's use of orange ink for important words... making them less readable than if they had used black or dark green for example.

I cannot recommend purchasing this book for the same reasons as Part 1: there is no answer key. What good is a book to teach you Greek if you can't tell if you've done the exercises correctly or not? I have tried several times to contact the publisher. There does exist an answer key, but they won't give it to me. There is a site where you can request access to it electronically. However, I received an email saying my request had been denied. I also tried contacting the publisher directly through writing to them on their corporate website. No reply.
