This allows quick release of the tubing, so you don't have to take off the mask for those midnight trips to the bathroom. Using the quick release ultimately wears out the connector, so being able to replace this part is super important, and the fact that the part is relatively inexpensive is a blessing. About every 4th replacement of the nasal cushions, I go ahead and replace this part too.
