Well worth the time and effort
This was my first attempt at putting texture on a ceiling. Everything turned out far better than I expected. I think that the result was just as good as the original work done by the builder. Only issue is that I wish the nozzle had a little more upward angle. I think that would help limit the overspray when trying to get along the edges and in corners.

Great results.
If done correctly. There are multiple variables... Drywall surface preparation, prime first, texture thickness, screen the texture, air pressure setting, orifice setting, distance of gun to wall, movement of gun while applying.

Great for skilled DIYers to make invisible repairs to drywall.
This is not as robust as a professional model used to do an entire house, but with a little practice as a skilled DIY'er I am able to match the existing texture on repairs to drywall. The best tip I can offer is to mix standard drywall mud from the box *very* thin in a bucket for use as texture. The gun clogs if the mixture is too thick, and the texture particles are very small and won't drip unless you way overcoat. Play with the air pressure as well before getting started. The best part is that if you mess up, a 12" taping knife can flatten things out and give you another shot - at least one time.Note: This model is improved over what they used to sell 10-15 years back, the hopper is open at the top which is a great improvement

Homex Texture gun
This simple little texture gun performed great for me to apply the orange peel texture I was hoping for. With the nozzle angled slightly upward, it applied texture to the ceilings as easy as it did to the walls. Plus I purchased the powdered sack of texture and mixed my own so the cost was kept to a minimum. I set my air compressor to approximately 40 lbs of pressure and never had a problem with the gun plugging up. Cleanup was a snap. Definetely a handy home improvement tool.

Gun is great, open hopper sucks.
I don’t know why you can’t buy the pro hopper with the red lid instead of this texture gun and open hopper. It’s impossible to texture ceiling’s without spilling mud. And you can forget putting the gun down on the floor with any amount of mud in the open hopper. The gun works with this hopper if you shoot strait ahead.

Not up to my husband's standards
Let me preface by saying I was trying to be passive aggressive, and trick my husband into texturing the guest bathroom and kitchen so I could finish the last bit of the projects in those rooms. I figured if I ordered a texture gun and pulled the "Oh! Look what showed up! Might as well get this done" trick, it'd work. Very wrong. He pulled it out of the box and started laughing. I should also mention that he's a professional mason and chimney sweep, and does construction on the side, so he knows what he's talking (or in this case laughing hysterically) about. He was very displeased for a number of reasons, the main being the hopper. He says it is entirely too flimsy, and does not hold near enough volume for anything of professional caliber. He was also not happy that the hopper itself was primarily plastic, which he advised would wear out quickly and we'd need to replace the entire unit. He was also very doubtful of it's ability to easily clip and unclip from our air compressor, but that we didn't test. Now, at first I thought it was just a ploy to put off texturing the bathroom - whine alot so I return the texure gun, and then we can't texture because we don't have the proper equipment. It may very well be, because although we ended up purchasing another gun after returning this one, and he loves it, my kitchen and bathroom remain unfinished (in his defense, it's only been a few weeks and he's busy) He's used the new one on some of his work projects with no issues. So, lesson learned, I am not good at manipulating. I'm giving it 3 stars because it seems as though it'd be a great piece of equipment for me to have used to get the little project done, as it's just a basic texture gun, and well priced. I know it sounds callous, but I wouldn't care if I broke it, as long as it served my purpouse. But, for longer term use, or larger projects, I'll take my husband's word that it's not the best for the job.

I love this thing
I love this thing, should have purchased it a long time ago. Mix joint compound and water to a thin pancake batter consistency and fill the hopper no more than 3/4 full. It takes about 1 minute to get the hang of it and match your wall pattern, but after that it is simple. Clean-up took about 2 minutes with the garden hose. It is plastic, but with reasonable care I think it will hold up.

Works good. It's smaller than what we thought.
