BACKGROUND: I love sound. An 11.1 home theater system is my reference, and due to my love of movies, deep, rumbling bass is my preference. Music requires more precision in a subwoofer (sealed vs vented enclosure typically), but if I can only have one, my bias is towards theater use. I also prefer "bright" speakers over more neutral or warm, so Klipsch is a favorite of mine. So, the bronze on black Sennheiser Momentum 4's tugged on my heartstrings a bit. COMPARABLES: I've previously had Samsung buds (Buds Live and Buds2 Pro) due to their integration with their phones, but was looking for better sound. I've had Sennheiser wired buds before and loved them, but was also interested in the Technics AZ-80's due to stellar reviews. I also looked into the Denon PerL Pro's, but they didn't make it into my cart due to their large "dinner plate" design. They get rave reviews for sound quality, but I draw the line on aesthetics somewhere. SOUND: So, the shootout was between the Technics and Sennheisers and neither is a clear winner. The Technics sound a bit more natural and "cleaner" while the Sennheisers sound more punchy and lively. Both sound great, but if I had to pick one for overall sound for every application, I'd lean toward the Technics. They just sound clean and detailed. The Sennheisers are more customizable however. The app really let's you tinker with the sound profile, especially after you set up an account (a must for all the extra features). Out of the box, Technics sound better, but with adjustments, the Sennheisers close the gap. The Denons require tinkering as well to get them fine-tuned to your ears. FEATURES: The Sennheiser app is much more robust than the Technics app. Here it's not close - Sennheiser is a clear winner. Changing settings, customizing the eq and sound profile, and adjusting parameters is pretty straightforward here while a bit less so in the Technics app, which is a bit less intuitive to use. The ANC is ever-so-slightly better on the Sennheisers, but not enough to make a decision on that alone. FIT AND FINISH: Both sets look the business, but the Sennheisers are lower profile and fit more securely in my ears. Every ear is different, so this is a "try before you buy" situation, but for me, the Sennheisers were a clear winner for fit. The Technics case is petite in comparison however. It slips in a pocket and feels svelt while the Sennheiser case feels enormous. The cloth texture is a unique and premium touch and I'm a fan... But the size is noticeable. The charge port is also on the front, which I don't like whereas the Technics puts it in the back where it should be. The charge light is also better on the Technics, both in form and function, having a light on the outside and inside of the case showing battery and charge status. The Sennheisers only have a light on the outside of the case, partially obscured by the charge cable if plugged in. Technics case is a clear winner. VERDICT: Both of these buds are great, and each have their pros and cons. I like the fit and app of the Sennheisers way more than the Technics, but the Technics case is better and the sound is better out of the box. Technics' Three point pairing is an added bonus, but only at normal sound quality, which makes the feature moot for me. Technics seem to have a bit better quality control with less reported issues, but I'm hoping firmware updates have sorted out most of the kinks by now. For me, the Sennheisers simply fit my ears better and the app made it overall a much more pleasant experience. With some tinkering, I might be able to fine tune the sound a bit more and make them the winner in that department as well. The Klipsch (or Duracell) color scheme is pretty sweet on the Sennheisers, but the silver on the Technics is slick as well.

These are like a lot of Sennheiser's other products. It has that signature sound profile that I only hear with Sennheiser. As for the ANC, it's all right; it does very well in a room with many distractions. I'll give an example. I have a fan in my room with ANC on I will not hear that thing at all. Which is very good, but when I'm riding in a car I can hear the radio and people talking, which isn't a big deal it does reduce quite a bit of noise, but nothing that completely ruins my listening experience. Another issue I have with is a product and the reason I can't give it 5 stars is, at times I have issues getting them to connect with my Mac laptop. The good is that once I get them connected, I have no issues, but sometimes I have to turn Bluetooth off, and put them back in the case, and take them out to try again. From a $300 dollar product, I would expect no connective issues so there is that. - ( works very well with phones have had no issues). The next thing is the case I love the thing it feels premium. The magnet is strong so unless your case, God forbid, drops on the ground, you have less of a chance of losing your earbuds. The last thing I want to mention is the app. It is a very well-designed app that offers a ton of customization for your earbuds. from sound quality to fit test Eq auto-pause when you take them out of your ears, a locator for the earbud in case you lose them, and many more. I am pleased with how Sennheiser has optimized their app for consumers, and I hope other companies will follow suit. Pros - great case - great sound quality - great app Cons - connective issues with Mac laptop - price - Only okay ANC All in all, I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to try this product, especially with Black Friday around the corner. 4.3/5 Will update this review after owning it for 3 months. So I've been using these earbuds for a little over 3 months. I officially can't recommend these products anymore. I have had a better experience with ToZo earbuds compared to these 300 E-waste earbuds. Not only does the Bluetooth disconnect randomly at times. I had many mornings of waking up to them not charged or close to 10% charge. I tried to love this product, but I can't with all of these serious problems that are hindering this product. Please, Sennheiser, do better. I think you guys have the best sound profile. I loved the PXC 550, but this is just sad.

So, I came from Sony xm4s which fried (loved those buds) I was stricken with whether to upgrade to the Sony xm5 or switch off. Found this in comparison videos and glad I did. These are better than xm4s. If you were comparing both I know it's a hard comparison. The battery is great, noise canceling is better than the Sony 4. With music playing you can't really hear the world (even walking next to heavy traffic. I took a call next to a busy road and the caller told me it almost sounded like I was in a quiet room assuming I was still at work though I was next to the road which is interesting. I could hear her perfectly fine too. I haven't played with their equalizer it's stock right now. I was a bit conflicted by sound quality initially. It sounded good but I felt something was slightly missing. I changed the standard on my phone to the hi res aptx. I have a Samsung s22 ultra (upgrading to s24 ultra soon) and the quality improved despite hearing Samsung shouldn't support that. Unless it's better but not true res or there was a supporting update idk. But it sounds just about flawless. Idk what the Sony xm5 sounds like but I know the controversy surrounding it. All in all I'm very happy. Also, I haven't noticed any hissing sound I've heard past reviewers mention though I heard an update addressed it. I'm very very happy.... last thing only negative. Sometimes they do wear on my ears. My ears do get tired (sometimes) a bit bulky but they fit very good. I don't have small ears, if you do Goodluck. ***Update- about 2 years later. So these bad boys fried roughly 2 years in started crackling and audio went out. They were used daily and very heavily for many hours. What I can say is I've dropped them several time on concrete etc. They been out with me in the conditions. I live in Vegas. I believe what fried them eventually was heat and possibly sweat getting inside. They fried one at a time right then days later the left. Luckily It was prime day and I got my new ones the next day after the left went out a wopping 150 dollars cheaper for 200. I usually always upgrade when I need to so this is rare for me to pick up the same pair that fried on me. However my experience with them was phenomenal. Nothing lacking. Case always sturdy reliable just darken with age and wear but still looks good despite it being a fabric feel. Sound quality great throughout the 2 years. It literally felt like im putting my old pair back in with the new ones. So.. why I didnt upgrade to another brand? Couldn't find any worthy to fit my preferences, and I do very heavy research. The sennheiser buds stayed strong till the end. Again I believe the elements eventually caught up to it. Fit and sound is always subjective but these were always great for me. Hope to make these last and upgrade beyond this pair. Side note im splurging on over ear headphones for my at home podcast/ music from beyerdynamics. I aaaalmost picked up the HD 660s2 from sennheiser which im still drawn to but wanted the more premium headset build. These earbuds are my go to daily. Went from copper to black as shown in pictures.

I've used a few different earbuds recently and I'll share my experiences as to why Ive landed on these specifically. Sennheiser is a great brand generally, I knew the sound quality would be good. My biggest concern was fit, and these do well in that dept too. Minor issue with the software. But minor. Most earbuds I've used, when the case opens it connects. The software is tied to the case itself. These are actually tied to the earbuds. For example, you can only update the firmware when they are removed from the case. It doesnt connect until you put them in your ear. This is great because there's no accidental connection if youre just checking that you didn't lose one or accidentally open it. Its less good if you want to connect the 2nd earbud suddenly because if they aren't inserted together, my phone sees them as 2 different Bluetooth devices, and it won't connect always unless I reset them and remove the one in use and insert both at the same time. You can switch from left to right if the battery is going with no issue. On to other brands, my ear canals are a bit small and the outside of my ear is small. I must use the smallest fit, and ive always had issues with pain wearing earbuds for an extended period of time, but I listen to music basically constantly so its an issue. For discretion, I dont use over-ear headphones. Previously, I've used Phillips neckband earbuds; those are the best imo, but not easy to sleep with if I need brown noise playing. Software is minimal, but they stay connected with no issues. Only sound quality issue is if you have left/right audio, you'll lose half of what you're listening to. I have also used Samsung's line for ear buds. I have had the galaxy buds, the buds 2 Pro, and the FE version. All of them are too big on the outside of my ear and cause discomfort when wearing them for a long time. Samsung's software is superior, Ive had no connectivity issues with it, its specifically just too big to be comfortable. The audio issue with the 2 Pro line is the EQ goes absolutely FLAT as soon as you have only 1 earbud in. EQ only works properly with both buds. I also tried Bose Quiet Comfort 2, and they were hands down the most comfortable Ive tried. The sound quality was ridiculously good, easily rivaling the Sennheiser earbuds. The software was hot garbage. Constantly disconnecting AND its a known issue as many people report Bose replacing their buds under manufacturer warranty multiple times. Also, the Bose software wants you to use their presets, so even after changing my preferences for what the buds do upon tapping/hold, it never held my custom configuration. The other huge minus is they want you to use their "aware mode" to hear ambient sound, and even if you tell it to not use it, it automatically enables it every.single.time. you put them on. I did more research on the Sennheiser before getting them because I didn't want another fiasco like the Bose earbuds and Im so pleased with this. Its a chunk of change, but I'm hoping to get many years of use out of these. I've previously had to purchase multiple sets of the Phillips because they tend to break because while they are bluetooth, theyre not 'wireless', and I think the use I'll get out of these will be the same monetary value as purchasing those every time I need a replacement.

These earbuds work well and sound good. They're comfortable to wear for hours at a time. They charge quickly and the case is small enough to keep in a pocket for convenience and charging in the field. The biggest problem I had with them before now is that even putting your hand between them and the device they're connected to could sometimes disrupt the connection severely. For example, if I have my phone in my pocket the connection is fine, but if I put my hand in my pocket with my phone it interferes badly enough that I can't understand what I'm listening to. Unfortunately, 1 year and 1 month of use and the right earbud literally fell apart. The half with the charging connections separated from the rest of the unit. I thought I would be OK with just the left unit because I don't often use both of them at the same time anyway, but a few days later the left earbud now won't stay connected to my phone. I don't know if the left earbud requires the right to be in the case and charged to work properly or not. I've used the left on its one a few times before, but never when the right was completely dead as is now the case. I got a little over a year out of a nearly $300 pair of earbuds. I got them on sale so it could be worse, but it is not the quality I expect from a premium priced product. I am now looking for a new brand to put my trust into.

Sound quality - excellent, clear, good dynamic range. Customizable sound profile through the app makes a noticeable difference (good feature). Noise cancellation - "OK", but not great. There are two settings (high, low), but even the strongest level of noise cancellation is noticeably less effective than Apple AirPods. Fit & feel - very good, comes with enough eartip sizes to allow me to find the perfect fit. BUILD QUALITY - AWFUL. Made in China for cheap, apparently. Right earbud stopped producing sound after 1yr 11months (just 3 weeks before 24 month warranty expired). NOTE: Sennheiser now offers only a 12 month warranty on their Momentum series for new purchases. How convenient for them - they must have been bleeding a lot of money on warranty repairs when they offered 24 months, so they shortened it to avoid the cost. I got lucky getting a warranty replacement. Posting this review so others don't get screwed. I won't be buying Sennheiser products made in China again.

I compared three earbuds in the same bracket: - Sony LinkBuds Fit - Bose QuietComfort Ultra - Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 4 Sony LinkBuds Fit 🟊☆☆☆☆ The tap controls are highly unreliable. When tapping a bus twice (carefully, directly on the earbud), it might register zero taps, one tap, or two taps. Thus, your two taps will randomly do nothing, pause the music, or skip the track. Frustrating. I perceived no improvement on sound quality over my old $50 Anker Space A40s. Furthermore, Sony's setup app is malware: it hides among the legal agreements an "Agree" to data sharing. I don't know what Wirecutter is smoking; I liked nothing about these. Bose QuietComfort Ultra 🟊🟊🟊☆☆ I was so close to loving these. The noise cancelling is incredible. The "Immersive Mode" brings music to life in a way I hadn't experienced with earbuds. However, the deal killer was that the earbuds would disconnect from my phone every few minutes. This is apparently a common issue. Additionally, the tap controls are better than Sony's, but still bad: you're supposed to slide your finger along it to change the volume, but this often registers as a tap. All this said, you might nevertheless want to try these with your phone and cross your fingers that they can stay connected, because the noise cancelling and sound is that good. If they work for you, you've won the lottery, and you're a lucky bastard. Odds are, though, it will be glitchy and unreliable for you, too. Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 4 🟊🟊🟊🟊🟊 Great, reliable tap controls. Noise cancelling and sound is not quite as good as the Bose QuietComfort, but still sounds great. Stays connected. Doesn't force you to use a crappy app. Comfortable. Has a premium look to it. Ultimately, you want earbuds that sound good, stay connected, and aren't frustrating to use. This is it.

I own roughly 78 pairs of earbuds - I use them to test VR/AR systems connectivity for work. It's nice to be able to incorporate work and leisure the way I do and it allows me to have this sizable collection. From Beats to Sony to Noble to Final to Status...Bang & Olufsen to Master & Dynamic, Technics, Audio Technica...my much loved Denon Perl Pro and Campfire Orbit and even the surprising JLab Epic Lab ... I have used nearly every major brand and own something from most of them. The Momentum 4, have something that they bring in terms of both fit and quality. The overall esthetic is lovely, the fit is sublime (I have inner ear cartilage piercings, so this is harder for me than others) and the quality out of the box is impressive. Depth of soundstage is leveled across the spectrum with an expansive feel. They provide almost aura-like audio sensation that is close to that of the Status Between ANC but not as detailed as the Final ZE8000MK2. Mids to highs are detailed without being bled and lows, while detailed feel a minor lack of impact that drives some songs to making you want to move and dance. Roll off from mid bass is nominal with a minor hint of detail loss but nothing unpleasant, it just exists. Overall, right out of the box, the sound is better tan a EQ'd set of Sony Xm4 or 5 while the fit and feel are so much better. So, they're good. Yes. They don't compete with the expansive and jaw dropping performance of my Beoplay Ex, Orbits, Falcom Max xMems and can't touch my Audio Technica ATH-TWX9... they would worship the Denon Perl Pro if they had knees and could kneel in awe...BUT, there is something pleasant about them in the way they look, feel, settle gently in the ear and give that sense of warm audio goodness I exist from Sennheiser. They ARE good. If you only have more consumer level items like Beats, JBL, Nothing or the like, these will blow you away. If you're a seasoned, picky audiophile you'll find a genre in your expansive mental collection that these will appeal to and you'll enjoy them as well. They'll be my second daily driver, next to my Denons for a week and after that they'll be part of the daily rotation I'm sure. They deserve it, because they do perform well. And for those complaining about ANC, it works as it should. Sounds waves are energy and if you think and read enough you'll realize, you lose some semblance of nuance in using it.... just try a pair of Campfire Orbits that have no ANC and you'll realize, with a good seal and quality kit, you don't need it and the music is still loud, clean... moving. I'll get another pair soon, I'm sure, the silver are calling to me.... maybe Sennheiser will have a sale sooner than later and save me a few bucks.
