The Best Mechanical Pencil Rotring 600
The last pencil I bought, this version in black, lasted 14 years! Ultimately the threads on the barrel wore out and the internal click mechanism became stuck in the lower portion of the barrel. But 14 years of daily heavy use is a great return on investment. I also dropped it and bent the nib in its final days. My bad. Couldn’t recommend this product more.

yeah buy it
its great. its heavy but the weight is centered towards the tip. the grip is weird but good. the mechanism is solid. the eraser doesnt suck. its very close to being a perfect pencil. i actually had a black one before i bought my silver one (both 0.5) and can confirm, i prefer silver. it sounds weird that a color would make a difference but it really did. i wasnt too fond of the finish on the black for the body because it had a weird matte scratchy feeling but it wasnt too bad. the silver does not have this texture and feels like just metal. i dont know if this is a sort of strange accident but my silver is less grippy than my black was, which sounds bad until i take a moment to tell you that my black one was so grippy it scraped dead skin off of my pointer finger and embedded it into the grip. the silver feels nice to hold in the hand where it doesnt scrape away your finger but stays put. yes the tip is fragile but the easy fix is to just put one of those bic pen caps over the tip. it fits suprisingly well. the lead it came with was good and high quality but the only reason i swapped was because i wanted softer lead. i think it came loaded with HB so i put B in it. but though the black one was not as an enjoyable of an experience, i still wouldve given five stars easily. that said i have no idea why silver is more expensive

it is the best drafting pencil I have ever owned
I bought this pencil because I was going into Mechanical Engineering as a Freshman and wanted a pencil that would last me my whole time there. So far, it's been 3 weeks and while I can't speak of the long term durability of the product, I can certainly attest to the quality of the pencil. By far, it is the best drafting pencil I have ever owned. In the past, I've used Staedtler and such but for the price, they always felt a bit fragile, poorly weighted, and just generally not high quality. The rOtring is on another level of quality. The first impression you get when holding it is how solid and well weighted it is. I know some people complain that it is *too* heavy, but I personally find it perfectly distributed. The knurled grip offers a solid feel and is very secure in your hand; even after 3 classes of notes in a row, I experience no discomfort. The hardness indicator is incredibly robust, rotating very smooth and not being moved while in your pocket. I use Ain Stein B and HB, but prefer the B because it is dark enough and soft enough to pop just a bit more than the HB. I'm considering going a bit softer, perhaps 2B, for more of the same effect. The only concern I have is with the tip, but that is mostly because I carry the pencil in my pocket occasionally (for ease). It is very well made, and you can purchase replacement tips, but they are almost half the cost of a new pencil. Nevertheless, I don't expect to bend or otherwise render the tip unusable unless I have an accident with it (stepping on, dropping, falling with, etc.). Incredibly happy with my purchase, overall. Now I just need a pen to match and I'll be set!

Perfect!
I got it when amazon lowered the price to $12 about two years ago now, I believe, maybe even further back. This thing is absolutely beautiful, I wasn't sure if it was worth buying at $60, but believe me even at that price I'd say this pencil is absolutely worth it! It's got a bit of heft to it, but the changing hardnesses at the end, the ergonomic feel (the pattern near the tip is textured in such a way that it almost *sticks* to your hands sometimes), even things you would never even consider in a regular pencil such as weight distribution, it's taken all of these into account and made a damn fine instrument. I've tried some of the cheaper versions of the rotring and more expensive ones, I'd like to say this one is the most "balanced" as in anyone would pick one up and be happy with it, in regular use, writing essays, designing blueprints, etc. It can achieve all of the tasks you might think to. My only advice: don't drop it! The metal tip is very durable, but the weight behind the pencil conquers the durability of the tip. I dropped it from about 4 feet, it landed directly on the tip and it bent at an ugly 45 degrees. I was able to bend mine back (perfectly straight, or at least to the point that the naked eye can't tell the difference) but that was only after a LOT of tinkering. If it falls on any other point, you should be fine, you might get a scratch, but that'd only occur if you dropped it at a height of at least 3 feet on to something rough such as concrete. This pencil really doesn't like to compromise at all. (I have no idea why I'm so excited about this pencil, I guess I just wish I got one earlier, and hope this review convinces you to try it out)

Very good pencil but the tip broke
This pencil feel amazing to use and worked perfectly but I dropped it once and the tip was bent out of place and when I tried to bend it back into place it snapped off.

Premium feel and incredible durability
This is one of my favorite writing tools I have ever used! I have another one in the color black that I used for my entire time in college, and this one I bought for my friend to use during her college journey. The wight feels so premium, and I never notice any discomfort unless I am writing for hours on-end (very infrequent). The price in a vacuum might seem a bit high, but never having to worry about sharpening a pencil ever and buying cheap ones that you'll loose within a few weeks makes up for the cost quickly. Love this thing and I will buy another one immediately if mine ever stops working!

Best mechanical pencil ever!
Beat mechanical I have ever owned and that’s saying a lot. I’m a Land Surveyor by trade and have to keep all kinds of data and information about jobs in a field book. Over the years I have used all kinds of mechanical pencils, none have measured up to this one.

The 600 is my favorite but also the easiest to drop and bend the ...
UPDATE: I have had this pencil for 4 years. It is by far my favorite. I have tried the Alvin Draftmatic (not heavy like this one), the rotring 800, the rotring pro, pentel graphgear, and the rotring 500. The 600 feels like a dental tool in weight and balance. The knurled grip is awesome. I recently switched to a slightly harder lead from AIN stein, which i like. If you want a less expensive and lighter pencil, the rotring 500 wins hands down for me. It’s under $10 and better than the Alvin or Graphgear. None of them hold a candle to the 600 if you want something heavy. See the picture in regard to the tip. Somehow along the way the tip on my 600 was either snapped off partially or pushed partially inside the body (not sure which), and with the metal tip about the same length as the distrance of how far the lead sticks out normally, it is now the perfect pencil simply because even if I drop it on the tip, it is stubby enough that it doesn’t get bent or completely break off and it doesn’t effect the feel or function. If I lost this pencil I would probably try to shorten the tip on the next one since the original tip is easy to break off completely and these heavy pencils fall hard. __ Original Review AI've have the rapid pro 0.7, the 800 .5, and the 600 .5. The 600 is my favorite but also the easiest to drop and bend the tip. Usually you can bend it back. It's got nice heft and writes beautifully with the .5mm Pentel Stein Japan lead. The pentel z something erasers are a perfect fit for eraser replacement by the way. If it's going to be coming in and out of my pocket I prefer the 800 for the retractable tip. This pencil did not help me impress the ladies at Trader Joe's as much as I had hoped. I'll keep you updated on that.

Lovely in the hand
Lovely pencil. Reassuringly weighty in your hand and the knurliing makes it easy to grip. Had this for a few months now and no problems so far.

Excelente calidad.
